"The family of Harrison has been represented in Western Pennsylvania for many years, its original seat being in McKeesport and Port Perry. The members of the family have ever been noted for upright character, leading lives of usefullness and activity, contributing their share to the growth and upbuilding of the communities in which they are located.
"William Henry Harrison was a native of Allegheny County, PA.He was one of the pioneers of Port Perry, Allegheny County, PA, where he owned a saw mill on Crooked Run, run by water power, a motive that has almost altogether been supplanted by steam (this having been written in 1914).He married, and among his children was George."
The above was written in a history of Allegheny Co.In an article about his son, George, in "Memoirs of Allegheny Co.", Vol. 2, p. 121, it is written that George was the son of William and Elizabeth Harrison.William was of Scotch descent, the son of John Harrison, but was raised in PA.
I have looked and looked for William, but have had no luck in finding him.I think I have located Elizabeth in both the 1850 and 1860 census reports living with children in the McKeesport area. But William is not mentioned, so must have died before 1850.
The children of William and Elizabeth, as I have them listed, are:(?) James - 1819, Ann (Trich) - 1823; (?) Wm. E. - 1824-25; Maria (Houghten) - 1826; Julia (Baker) - 1828; George - 6/25/1829 (gr-grandfather); Walter B. - 1831; (?) John - 1933; Sarah - 1834.Some of these have been identified by being buried in the same plot at the McKeesport-Versailles Cemetery, in McKeesport, PA, the others from census reports.
I have also searched in many cemeteries in the McKeesport and Wilkins Township areas:specifically Beulah Cemetery; Church Hill Cemetery, McKeesport and Versailles, and some others in the area, but I have not found one with early enough burials in it.
I would appreciate any help that anyone could give me in finding William and climbing over my biggest brick wall!Thank you!
