The Ancestors of Aren Pietersz Heerschap

Aren Pietersz Heerschap was born late June or early July 1756 to Pieter Woutersz Heerschap and Lijsbet Jacobsdr Heimplin in Ouddorp, Zuid Holland [South Holland], The Netherlands.1 Ouddorp, or "old village," is a small Dutch town build around an ancient church with windmills within walking distance of the town center on the west side of the island of Goeree-Overflakkee.

Aren's father Pieter was the son of Wouter Paulusz 't Heerschap who was born prior to 1693 and Klaasje Arens Capiteijn. Wouter and Klaasje were married 20 November 1714 in Ouddorp. Wouter had previously been married to Aertje Reijers who had died sometime between Dec 1713 and early 1714. Wouter and Aertje had three known children: Claasje (Dec 1710), Paulus (May 1712), and Aart (Dec 1713).

The only child of Wouter and Aertje we have been able to discover anything about is Paulus. He married Aagtje Laures Groenendijk in Ouddorp on 20 March 1739/1740. They had a daughter Neeltje Paulusdr Heerschap who was baptized 22 Jan 1740/1741. She married Jacob Jansz van der Kemp 26 April 1772. She died sometime before May 1773. Aagtje died sometime before 1746. Paulus remarried in January 1746/1747 Neeltje Marinusdr Witte. Paulus and Neeltje had two children that we have been able to discover: Wouter (Mar 1747/1748) and Maartje (Nov-Dec 1751). Maartje married Jan Cornelisz Witte 7 May 1775. THey had three children: Neeltje (Mar 1778), Tanis (Jan 1780), and Paulus (Aug 1784).

From our research we think Wouter and Klaasje had eight children:

We have much research to do on this family and will update this information as we find out more. Our best guess is Aren's father is the youngest Pieter.

Aren's father Pieter married Lijsbet Jacobsdr Heimplin 4 Sept 1746. Aren is the fourth child known to be born to this couple: Wouter (baptized: 6 Aug 1747), Klaasje (31 Aug 1749), Jacob (23 Sep 1753) and Aren. Aren was baptized on 18 July 1756. Pieter married a second time in 1772 to Kommertije Doens van der Linde (baptized: 1 Jan 1747/1748). We know of one child so far from this couple: Aagje (baptized: 12 Apr 1778). We think that she is the Aagje that married Hubrecht Martinusz van Dam on 22 June 1804 in OUddorp. They had two children: Martinus (16 Sep 1804) and Pieter (13 Nov 1805).

The Family of Aren Pietersz Heerschap

Aren married Jannetje Pietersdr Francke on 26 March 1784 in Ouddorp. They had eleven children:

On 12 February 1809 Aren died in Ouddorp leaving Jannetje to support their children. Jannetje died sometime after 1836.
