I also found the online probate record for Frederick van Hoogstraet. Now these records are mixed up so you have to go through a few steps to view the actual records...Is the Fred your looking for married to a Carolina.. if so, this might be the wrong one.

Court Probate
County St. Louis
Party Name VONHOOGSTRAET, FREDERICK
Case Number 16118
Date Filed 1887
Microfilm Reel C 37615

But to see the correct records look up records in the index for
St. Louis, WOODWARD, EUGENIA C case#16105, filed 1886, microfilm# C 37615
click on her name and Frederick's file are there. I've reported the problem to the archives so hopefully they will straighten them out eventually.

This is the probate records of Freidrich van Hoogstraet, and includes his last will and testament which states his wife was Melanie, and his children were Peter, Seraphien, Sophie and Louise.

I believe this is the correct immigration information but it doesn't say what port they came into.. Are there immigration records on your end that would indicate the name of the ship or which port they would have be heading to??

okay.. I thoink this enough for one e-mail. Look things over and sort through it. I've located more on the census but can't see the connect as of yet. Hopefully the obituaries you ordered will shead some light and give new leads.
