Hugh IX then formed an alliance with Philip II K of France against King John of England resulting in John's loss of his continental possessions.2

!AInfoNew 1217 Of their children, Ponce, who married Wulgrim d'Angouleme is the only one with descendants. They claimed La Marche, but so did the descendants of Almodis I and Hugh VI. This came to a head when Hugh IX of Lusignan (who had been married the senior heiress to the Angouleme/La Marche claim) was engaged to Isabelle of Angouleme, but she was stolen by King John, who contested with Hugh for the lands of the family. When the dust cleared, Hugh IX's son Hugh X married Isabelle (his almost-step-mother), and La Marche ended up in the Lusignan family. All Kings of England after John descend from Almodis II, while John himself descended from Almodis I and Pons (through his mother Eleanor of Aquitaine, a descendant of William IV of Toulouse), and John's son Henry III, and his son Edward I both married descendants of Almodis I by Raymond Berenger.
