Pop-up Pedigree

Father   **Hugo (?) d. before 500
Mother   **Amalafrida of the Ostrogoths d. circa 525

Birth before 500 Amalaberga of the was likley born before 500 as her mother is given as a widow when she
married King Thrasmund of the Vandals about 500.

Marriage Amalaberga of the Ostrogoths married King Hermanfrid of the Thuringii.    This marriage appears to have occurred some time between 507 and 511.  ( see http://hermanafrid.wikix.ipupdater.com/ )

Hermanafrid first shared the rule with his brothers Baderich and Bertachar, but later killed Bertachar in a battle.  According to Gregory of Tours, Amalaberga stirred up Hermanafrid against his remaining brother, Bertachar. Once she laid out only half the table for a meal, and when questioned about the reason, she told him "A king who owns only of half of his kingdom deserved to have half of his table bare." Thus roused, Hermanafrid made a pact with the Frankish king Theuderich I to march against Baderich. Baderich was overcome by the Franks and beheaded, but Hermanafrid refused to fulfil undisclosed unfulfilled obligations to Theuderich, which led to enmity between the two kings.
531 After the fall of the royal Thuringian seat of Scithingi to the king of Metz, Theuderic I in 531, Amalaberga fled to the Ostrogothic king Theodahad, her brother, with Amalafrid and his sister Rodelindis. They were captured by the Byzantine general Belisarius and sent to Constantinople, together with the captured Ostrogothic king Witiges (or Wittigis). Justinian made Amalafrid a general and married off Rodelindis to the Lombard king Auduin..1

There is some discussion as to whether this occurred in 531 of 534. 2
