FARMER
Abigail FARMER married Ebeneezer FARLEY in Hollis on September 15, 1796.
Ebeneezer was the son of Ebeneezer FARMER and Betty WHEELER.
Abigail was the daughter of Minot FARMER and Abigail WOODS.
----------------------------
In the Hollis marriage records,
we find Abigail Woods listed as Abigail Barron.
Abigail Woods was the widow of Silas Barron when she married Minot FARMER.
Silas died August 6, 1772, and Abigail married for the second time Minot Farmer
September 15, 1775.
----------------------------
Minot FARMER was born 17 Apr 1751
in Westford, MA. a son of Benjamin FARMER and Rebecca Minot.
The children of Benjamin Farmer and Rebecca Minot are noted as follows:
Rebecca
Benjamin
Elisabeth
Minot
Sibel
----------------------------
Minot's brother Benjamin and sister Sibel are also found as getting married in the Hollis records.
Benjamin JR married Sarah
Emerson and
Sibel married Jonathan Emerson
Both these couples are then
found having children in the records of Bolton Connecticut.
Later, Benjamin Farmer Jr appears in the records of Rutland, Vermont.
----------------------------
Minot Farmer's parents,
Benjamin Farmer SR and Rebecca Minot,
are also recorded as having died in Rutland, Vermont.
----------------------------
Minot Farmer's grandparents,
Thomas Farmer and Elizabeth Hunt, died in Hollis in 1767. It is noted in
the book, The History of Billerica by Henry Hazen, that
they were buried in the same grave. I have not
yet found the location of their grave, however.
----------------------------
Thomas Farmer was born in Billerica, MA, a son
of Edward Farmer and Mary, both of England.
The book, The History of Billerica by Henry Hazen, has Thomas date of birth as
June 8, 1683
----------------------------
According to Hazen, Edward Farmer came to Billerica probably in 1671

According to Samuel Worcester in the book The
History of Hollis, Minot Farmer enlisted in the Hollis company of Minute-Men and
was on the march to Cambridge on April 19, 1775 in which he was a sergeant. He
was also a sergeant in the company of Captain Dow at the battle of Bunker Hill.
Minot Farmer is one of the names inscribed on the Nevens
Stone. One of the other Minute-men marching that day was Ebeneezer Farley.
Minot Farmer's only daughter Abigail would one day marry Ebeneezer Farley's son,
Ebeneezer Farley Jr.
The inscription on the Neven's Stone reads; "The Nevens
Brothers were at work on this stone, on their farm, April 19, 1775, and left it
in this position at the Minute-men's alarm, to join their comrades upon this
Common."
The names of the 92 minute-men who marched to Lexington, April 19, 1775 are upon the tablet on the face of this stone.
According to Worcester's book, in the Winter of 1775-76 four Hollis soldiers, Minot Farmer, David Ames, David Patch and Eli Stiles enlisted in General Benedict Arnold's expedition to Canada. With so much privation and suffering, they made their way in the depth of winter, through the forests of Maine by way of Kennebec River to Canada and Quebec. Arnold had embarked in September 1775 with around 1,100 men. Short on food, hampered by poor maps, and facing degrading weather, Arnold lost over half his force en route. The attack on Quebec failed and Minot Farmer was taken prisoner. Minot died in captivity, May 9, 1776, age twenty-six. He is supposed to have held the rank of Ensign.
Minot FARMER and his wife Abigail Woods had
only one child, a daughter, Abigail FARMER, born Dec 1, 1775.
Minot never had the chance to meet his daughter.
Abigail FARMER is the grandmother of
Clara Ella FARLEY
Clara Ella FARLEY married Josiah Newton HAYDEN
