Front Row, L to R: Pilot (Larry), Co-Pilot, Navigator, Bombadier

Larry and his crew named their B-17 Bomber "Bombs Away". "Bombs Away" was the squadron leader.

Not only did they wear parachutes, they also carried with them a "Mae West". The Mae West would make a small inflated raft should the plane go down on water.
When their plane went down over Belgium, after bombing a large dam and railroad tracks in Belgium, four were killed and three were taken as P.O.W.'s.

Larry in his Civilian Days
Before The War

Larry was a football coach and history teacher in Bayard, Nebraska prior to entering the service.
These are trophies that his teams won.
There was one proud coach.

The photo above is of Larry and his team. Unlike some other coaches that only told their teams what to do, Larry told them AND showed them.

The music on this page is the "Army Air Corps", if you'd like to view the lyrics to it, please click here.

It is no longer called the "Army Air Corps". It is now called the "Army Air Force."
