History  and Gazeteer 1856 for Culverthorpe

Culverthorpe, 5 miles S W of Sleaford is a village and township in the parish of Haydor, containing 185 souls and 846 acres of land, all the property and manor of J A HOUBLON Esq of Hallingbury Place, Essex.   Culverthorpe Hall, a large and handsome mansion is now unoccupied.  The present owner derived the manor from his grandfather, the last of the NEWTONS who were long seated here and one of whom was created a baronet in 1661.   The small domestic chapel built by the Newtons is now disused, but there are no traces of an ancient chapel dedicated to St Bartholomew, and said to have stood near the Hall.
