Whites's Directory 1872 for Swarby

Swarby.  a pleasan village, on a gentle acclivityt, above a small rivulet, 4 miles S by W of Sleaford, and 5 miles N W by N of Folkingham, has in its parish 175 inhabitants and 910 acres of land, having a strong clayey soil and including two of the three Crofton farms, half a mile S E of the village.   J.A. Houblon Esq. is the lord of the manor and owner of half the soil, and the rest belonging to Sir T Whichcote, Bart.   The latter is patron of the vicarage, which is valued in K.B. at £6, and now at £90, in the incumbency of  the Rev Christopher Whichcote M.A. rural dean and rector of Aswarby, where he resides.    The church consists of of a nave, north and south aisles, chancel, south porch and a broad west tower, is an ancient structure.  It was newly seated in 1854.   A school, with residence for the teacher, which was built in 1859 at the sole expense of Sir Thomas Whichcote, is attended by over 30 children.
