Latest News & Specials !
First item ... dated 10 Oct. 2004
FamilyTree-DNA has made it possible where individuals can make contributions to a general fund for our specific study group ... In order to help out and or encourage other hdpth participants to join us :)
Those who wish to make a contribution, note that our study group is listed under the spelling of Hedgpeth ...
contributor's can request to be anonymous if they prefer.
funds contributed to our specific group's account can not be used for any other purpose, except for the expressed purpose of making partial and or full payments for Y-DNA testing of prospective participants* joining our specific study group.
the study group Admin. "me" in this case, for our specific study group, is currently the only one that can direct FT-DNA when to release funds from our account, for testing fees [partial and or full payments], and only for the testing of prospective participants* joining our specific study group.
contributions can be made easily by visiting this link where you will have the option of using either the PayPal button for credit/debit cards, or you can print out the contribution form there and mailing in a personal check directly to FT-DNA
note PayPal is very easy to use and has the highest securities in place for easy transactions of electronic funds over the internet ... if you don't already have an account with them [like for using with Ebay] don't worry, it's easy to set one up, you will be given the option to do so, on the PayPal page if that is the case :)
those that want additional info that might not have been covered here, please don't hesitate to contact me any time :)
* The guide lines for prospective participants, (1) must be male, as we are only testing specific markers on the Y-chromosome for this group study (2) must have a hdpth variant surname spelling (3) should be able to provide a direct hdpth lineage back to at least the mid 1800's if not beyond [exception will be considered in some cases] (4) must sign the release form to allow our group Admin access of the test results, [which is a series of numbers that have no meaning to anyone else, except in the use of comparing with other participants in our group study] (5) must be eligible for the various special's offered from time to time, if they apply ...
NOTE: if you suspect [and or know] that there might have been an (a) unreported adoption (b) unwed pregnancy, and or (c) infidelity, within your direct line of hdpth ancestors ... this is not a paternity test, but the resulting test results might prove to be a bit disappointing, when trying to compare them with other participants with in our specific hdpth study group, that you would have hope to connect up with through this Y-DNA testing ...
Second item ... dated 24 Dec. 2004
In order for our study group, to claim the matching funds that FT-DNA offered in October, that were due to expirer at the end of December 2004. We have used the contributions that were in our general fund account, and pre purchased (8) 12-marker Y-DNA test kits ... these test kits have an option of being upgraded to 25-markers, providing that the upgrade is specify before the sample kit is returned for testing :)
We will distribute these (8) test kits on a first come, first served bases ... under the following guide lines :)
Prospective participant(s) will need to contribute $74 to our groups general fund by visiting this link and be eligible to take advantage of the ($25) savings that we claimed in the pre purchase on each of these (8) test kits ...
It is our hope, that participant(s) taking advantage of this special deal, would want to upgrade the test kit from the 12-marker to the 25-marker test [before submitting the test kit sample] which would be an additional $70 ... and we will cover half of the cost of that added expense ... the participants total contribution here, would end up being $109 for a total savings of $60 off our normal group rate.
After making your contribution contact me so that I verify it and have the test kit sent to you [please include your full name (and or the name of the participant that will be using the test kit) along with the mailing address of where to send the test kit] ...
Please note: that if you choose to wait and do the upgrade to 25-marker test after the test kit sample has been submitted to FamilyTreeDNA, it will cost you $90 [our normal group rate] ...
Those participants who qualify for our on going SPECIAL half price on the 25-marker test for those age 70 plus ... will only need to contribute $59.50 to our groups general fund by visiting this link for a total savings of $109.50 off our normal group rate ...
After making your contribution contact me so that I verify it and have the test kit sent to you [please include your full name (and or the name of the participant that will be using the test kit) along with the mailing address of where to send the test kit] ...
Please note: that this special here, goes back up to $84.50 after these pre purchased test kits are gone ...
To check out the discounted group rate pricing offered to us ...
In regards to the 12-marker testing see note on results page about our observations ...
The participant(s) taking advantage of these specials can upgrade their test result in the future, to the full 37-marker test on their own, for an additional cost of $59 if they wanted to at a later date ... no new test kit sample is required for the upgrade, as their original test sample submitted, is stored at the Arizona State University for 25 years [unless the participant requested that their sample be destroyed after the original test] ...
Note: we would prefer the 25-marker testing, due to the better matching results as the database grows ... along with the shared commitment and the expenses of this project ... the 12-marker test is great to get participant(s) involved ... but from my own observations, it shows that the 25-marker test results are more beneficial, when comparing with other participants :)
Note : the following sponsorship offer is not available,
until after the above (8) test kits have been distributed ...
For a limited time and while funding is available ... we have a sponsorship fund set up to help those who really want to participate, but can't afford the total cost ... and don't meet the 70+ age category in the above special ... this sponsorship has a maximum limit per participant of half the price covered on the 12- marker test kit ... or a maximum of a $50 credit towards the 25 and or 37-marker test kit ... please see note on results page about the 12-marker testing results ... and then also the discounted group rate pricing for upgrading your test results in the future :)Another option might be ... if you have two or more siblings in your family unit, and at least one being a male, only one male sibling would actually need to participate in the testing and there by, be the representative for your whole family unit. The cost could then be shared and divided by all siblings in your family unit ...
