PART TEN
HELMS MIGRATION FROM NORTH CAROLINA

Introduction

THE HELMS MIGRATION FROM NORTH CAROLINA

While there was considerable Helms expansion within the local North Carolina area, as the overall "family" began to enlarge greatly, the Helms began to migrate into other territories as they opened up.

A substantial number of Helms migrated to Tennessee and Kentucky and to Georgia and Alabama. Some went from North Carolina to the Midwest and even further west. Each of those moves were interesting adventures. One such tale concerns the move to Texas.

HELMS TO TEXAS

Some of the line of Jonathan Helms were in a migration into Texas. The migration took them through Kentucky, Ohio, Missouri, and finally into North Texas when Texas was still a republic.

Sue Patterson has written a stirring tale about their trials and tribulations in her story called "HONEY CREEK: The Story of Thompson and Abigail Helms, by Sue Patterson"

Thompson and Abigail (Kendall) Helms were a young married couple who migrated to North Texas to become Peter’s Colonists in the 1840s when Texas was a republic. Honey Creek is the story of the trials, tribulations and sorrows that they and their children faced in settling on the Texas frontier. The story is documented with original court records as well as other pertinent sources. That account is provided in Sue's website. The URL for the site is:

Sue Patterson has compiled an excellant summary of some of the Colin Texas records.
