Martha Patsy Chaffin Higginbotham (1799-1881) VA/KY

Died suddenly at the home of her grand son-in-law, Mr. John Quinn, August 7, 11 45 a.m. of paralysis, Mrs. Martha Higginbotham, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother aged eighty-two years, six months. She was the wife of George Higginbotham deceased, of Richmond, Virginia and sister of Reverend Edwin and Stanley Chaffin of Amherst county, Virginia. This beloved old mother of Israel has been a faithful member of the Methodist Church since her eighteenth year and partook her last sacramental feast with her pastor, Reverend Mr. Watson, of Grace M. E. Church, Newport, previous to her coming to the country to spend her last days with the younger members of her family. Remains deposited in Plum Creek Cemetery till winter, when friends expect to remove them to Newport.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Word has been received here of the drowning of Garlin Higginbotham, son of Charles Higginbotham who resides in the Guy community of Warren county. The boy was drowned in White River, near Indianapolis, Ind.

Zuie Lee King Higginbotham (1882-1956) KY

Mrs. Zuie Lee Higginbotham died at her home at Mill Springs, Saturday, Sept. 1, she was years 73 years of age.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Higginbotham is survived by three children, Robert C. Higginbotham, Indianapolis, Ind., Mrs. Vada Russell, Indianapolis, Ind., and Mrs. Gussie Bolander, Mill Springs. Another son, Orville Lee Higginbotham preceded his mother in death. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. E. A. Ward, Monticello, one brother, Luke E. King, Monticello, Rt No 1. 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Mill Springs Methodist Church. The Rev. Wendell Hurt and Rev. E. G. Pursley conducted the services. Burial was in the Elk Spring Cemetery. Pall bearers were James E Dunagan, Everett Dunagan, E. West, Ken Roberts, James West and Russell Lovell. Flower bearers were her grandchildren.

Mrs. Higginbotham was in bad health a long time and suffered much. She was a Christian and said she was ready to go to her heavenly home but her passing saddened many friends.

Joe S. Higginbotham, age 81, died at the Somerset City Hospital Wednesday, October 30th. Mr. Higginbotham was born on June 25, 1876 in Wayne County, a son of the late Phillip and Jane Barnes Higginbotham. He had always been a farmer and lived at Mill Springs. He is survived by three children, Mrs. Sam Russell of Indianapolis, Mrs. Gussie Bolander of Mill Springs, and Robert C. Higginbotham of Indianapolis. Funeral services were held at the Mill Springs Methodist Church Saturday at 10-30 by Rev. Wendell Hurt. Interment was in the Elk Spring Cemetery, with the Richard Lee Funeral Home in charge.

Mrs. Higginbotham Died in Albany

Mrs. Dolores Higginbotham, wife of Mr. Omry Higginbotham of the Union Chapel section, died Tuesday in Albany Memorial Hospital where she had been a patient for about three weeks. She was 47.

In addition to her husband, she leaves two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Ethel Waldren of Cincinnati, Mrs. Dorothy McClain of Gratis, Ohio, and Ralph Stamper of Olive Hill, Ky.

Funeral services are to be held this (Thursday) afternoon at Fairview Church, conducted by Rev. R. C. Mott. Burial will be in the Hadley Cemetery, with Rippetoe Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jacob Tucker Died Suddenly

Mrs. Edna Tucker, wife of Mr. Jacob Tucker of Route 3, Fonthill, died suddenly on October 7. Her passing was attributed to a heart attack. She was 47 years of age. In addition to her husband, she leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Higginbotham of Wayne Co., five sisters and five brothers, as follows: Mrs. Jessie Williams of Birmingham, Ala., Mrs. Dorothy Burton of Medora, Ill., Mrs. Bertha Hunt of Monticello, Mrs. Katherine Kelly of Frazer, Mrs. Barbara Black of Betsy, Earl, Raymond and James Higginbotham of Monticello, and Jackie and Frankie of Betsy, Ky. Mrs. Tucker was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church. She was loved and respected by a large circle of friends, who join the family in mourning her passing. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, October 9, in Indian Hill Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Henry Popplewell. Burial was in Fountain Run Cemetery at Fonthill, with Bernard Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Neighborly Farm Visit Ends in Double Tragedy

HARRODSBURG, KY.,-Farmer Ed Higginbotham ended his visit to a neighbors farm by climbing into his truck, waving so long and driving away.

Behind him lay his host, Allen Woodard, 51, injured when the truck struck him. Woodard's brother, J.C., said the injured man, who later was hospitalized, had been sitting in front of the truck while the men talked and apparently Higginbotham didn't see him there when he left.

Nobody got a chance to tell Higginbotham, 50, of the mishap. He was killed about 20 minutes later when his truck ran off U.S. 68 and overturned Wednesday.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Mt. Zion Church of God at Keavy by the Rev. Henry Bray and the Rev. Randall Lee. Burial will be in the Chappell Cemetery by the Hart Funeral Home.

The body is at the residence at Rt.1, Keavy.

Violet Higginbotham Silvers (1902-1972) KY

Violet Higginbotham Silvers, 69, Ludlow, Ky, died Thursday at Ft. Logan Hospital in Stanford after an illness of about four months. She was born in Wayne County on April 20, 1902, the daughter of John and Ella Scott Higginbotham, both deceased. She married Reddish Silvers in Oneida, Tennessee on April 23, 1919, and he survives. Other survivors include one son, Claude Edward of Danville, one daughter, Mrs. Johanna Drewry of Ferguson; one sister, Mrs. Zada Peters of Oakland, California, and one grandchild. She was a former resident of Pulaski County, a housewife and a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church at Ludlow. She was a member of the Louisville Order of the Eastern Star. Funeral services were held at the Pulaski Funeral Home Saturday with Rev. Robert Wallace and Rev. L.D. Fisher officiating. Burial was in the Somerset Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Lula Higginbotham, Williamsburg; two daughters, Mrs. Audrey Padgett, Cincinnati, and Mrs. Evelyn Duguid, Ft. Wayne, Ind.; four sisters, Mrs. Zora Jones, Williamsburg; Mrs. Lula Jeffers, Norwood, Ohio; Mrs. Ruth Murphy and Mrs. Mary Wood, Cincinnati; four brothers, Azrie Higginbotham, Williamsburg; Bert Higginbotham, Cincinnati; Roscoe Higginbotham, Loveland, Ohio, and Paul Higginbotham, Norwood, Ohio; seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Harold Robinson. Burial will be Monday in the Rest Haven Cemetery in Blue Ash, Ohio.

Mrs. Verdie Frazier Higginbotham (1905-1977) KY

Mrs. Verdie Higginbotham, age 71, of Pearl, Ky., passed away March 15, 1977, at the Claiborne County Hospital. She was born April 22, 1903, daughter of the late Isaac Frazier and Rachel Huddleston Frazier.

She is survived by one daughter, Essie Jackson, of Harrogate, Tenn.; three sons, Ray and Claude Higginbotham, both of Frakes, Ky., and Charles E. Higginbotham, of Clairfield, Tenn.; two sisters, Lillie Dixon, of Middlesboro, and Minnie Lambdin, of Chenoa; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and one daughter.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 1977, at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at Pearl, Ky., with the Rev. J.L. Thacker and Rev. Elden Hurst officiating. Burial followed in the George Parlin Cemetery at Pearl, Ky.

Pallbearers were R.D. Dixon, Ralph Dixon, Thomas F. Dixon, Herman Maiden, Walter Frazier, and Freddie Frazier.

Cawood Funeral Home was in charge.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Loy Higginbotham; one daughter, Mrs. Clyde Martin of Park City; two sons, James H. Higginbotham of Rt. 1, Hartford, and Harvey Higginbotham of Park City; one brother, Claude Higginbotham of Park City; two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Saucy of Ava, Missouri and Mrs. Anna Hawkins of Carrollton, Kentucky; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services were Sunday, April 30, at the Waldrop Funeral Home, Park City, with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Vankirk Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Roger Miller. Burial was in the Baltimore Pike Cemetery in Cincinnati.

Eugene E. Higginbotham (1936-1989) IN/KY

Gene Higginbotham, 53, of Campbellsville, son of the late Sam G. Higginbotham and Jennie Gray Higginbotham, born in Marion, Ind., Sept. 12, 1936, died at 8:12 a.m., Friday, Nov. 24, 1989 at Humana Hospital University in Louisville after a sudden illness. He attended the Campbellsville Baptist Church. He was maintenance superintendent for Batesville Casket Company in Campbellsville. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the United States Army. He was awarded two purple hearts, a bronze star, a silver star, and many other decorations and citations. He is survived by his wife, Pat Glasscock Higginbotham, Campbellsville; four daughters and one son, Debbie Shaw of Louisville, Gina Montgomery of Jamestown, Jill and Carol Higginbotham, both of Nancy, Ky., and Donnie Higginbotham of Sedalia, Mo.; two step-daughters, Marsha Benningfield and Melisa Morris, both of Campbellsville; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one brother and one sister, Donnie Higginbotham of Marion, Ind., and Lois Titus of Greenfield, Ind.; several other relatives and many friends. The funeral was held at 4 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 26, at the Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home in Campbellsville with the Dr. James E. Jones officiating. Burial was in the Campbellsville Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Chuck Arnold, Stanley Gaddie, Albert Swafford, Jacky Arvin, Tim Richardson, Marc Daniels, Lee Rayner and Michael Sullivan.

Zora Ann Jones, age 91, of Williamsburg, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 1989 at the Williamsburg Nursing Home.

She was the wife of the late James F. Jones, Sr. and a member of the Hayes Creek Church of God.

Survivors include four sons, Clifford Jones of Williamsburg, Charles Jones of Knoxville, Tenn., Orville Jones of Westford, Mass., and James F. Jones Jr. of Louisville; three daughters, Carrie Moore of Williamsburg, Kathryn Work of Cincinnati, Ohio and Jeanette Ellison of Merritt Island, Fla.; two brothers, Azrie Higginbotham of Williamsburg and Paul Higginbotham of Cincinnati; three sisters, Lula Jeffers, Mary Woods and Ruby Murphy, all of Cincinnati; 29 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held December 1 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Oscar Morgan and Rev. Leamon Perry officiating. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Alma Joyce Higginbotham, 44, Parkers Lake, died Sunday, Jan. 14, at UK Medical Center, Lexington. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, at Pleasant Knob Baptist Church with the Revs. Ledford Perry and Roscoe Spradlin officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Knob Cemetery. She was born in Sawyer April 20, 1945, the daughter of Annie Ruth Hicks Ridner and the late Delmer Ridner. She was a housewife. She is preceded in death by her father and a brother, Jeffrey Allen Ridner. Survivors include her husband, Albert E. Higginbotham, Parkers Lake, whom she married Aug. 10, 1962, in Stearns; her children, Johnny Higginbotham, Sawyer; Janice Higginbotham, Timmy Higginbotham, Brenda Higginbotham and James Higginbotham, all of Parkers Lake; five grandchildren; three brothers, Earnest and Jerry Ridner, both of Parkers Lake, and Ranzie Ridner, Sawyer; seven sisters, Lois Vanover, Offie Goodin, Affie Rose, Bonnie Swain, Brenda Perry, Patricia Ridner, all of Parkers Lake, and Lenora Mitchell, Waynesburg. Charlie Earl Higginbotham, age 84, of Monticello, passed away on Friday, March 15 at the Golden Years Nursing Home. He was born August 19, 1911 in Wayne County to the late James Earl Higginbotham and Eira Dowell Higginbotham. He was a farmer. He was preceded in death by one son, Charles Higginbotham. He is survived by his wife, Oval Barnett; one son, Gary Higginbotham; one daughter, Patricia Roberts; one brother, Raymond Higginbotham; three half brothers, James, Frankie and Jackie Higginbotham; one sister, Dorothy Burton; half sisters, Bertha Hurt, Barbara Black and Kathryn Kelley. Funeral services were held March 17 with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Omry D. Higginbotham, 89, of Jamestown died Thursday, May 13, 1999 at his residence.

Born in Jamestown on Oct. 1, 1909, he was the son of Clementine and George Higginbotham, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Higginbotham, in 1985.

Survivors include one son, Alfred Higginbotham of Jamestown; one daughter, Wanda Higginbotham of Russell Springs; one foster son, Clellie Robinson of Jamestown; and one foster daughter, Gale Shepherd of Columbia.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 17 at Fairview Separate Baptist Church.

Pallbearers were deacons of the church.

Interment was in Hadley Cemetery.

H. E. Pruitt Memory Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

ALMA JO KEETON, 65, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 1999 at her home. She was born on August 13, 1934, the daughter of Orville and Georgia Armstrong Higginbotham. Both parents preceded her in death. In March of 1953, she married Billy Keeton, who survives. She is also survived by 1 son Billy Joe Keeton; 3 sisters Thomasine Hailey, Judy Huffaker, and Jetta Fallahzadeh; 3 brothers Billy, Jim and Allen Higginbotham; and 1 grandson. Preceding her in death is 1 son Jeff; and 1 sister Virginia Kable. She had accepted Christ as her Savior and was a faithful member of Elk Springs Valley Baptist Church. Funeral services were held Thursday, December 30, 1999 at the Elk Spring Valley Baptist Church with Brother C. E. Hansford and Brother Stan Stevenson officiating. Burial was in the Elk Spring Cemetery. Hoyt G. Hickey & Son Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Jimmy W. Higginbotham, 62, of Rocky Hill died at 4:35 p.m. June 21, 2000, at The Medical Center. The Edmonson County native was a carpenter, Rocky Hill Fire Department chief and charter member, and a member of Oak Grove Methodist Church. He was a son of the late Leslie William Higginbotham and Margolene Lyons Higginbotham. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green chapel, with burial in Rocky Hill Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Rubel L. Sprouse, 82, of Bowling Green died at 4:52 p.m. Dec. 16, 2001, in San Antonio. The Butler County native was a retired Indianapolis Public Library housekeeper and a member of Highland Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Cullie Belcher Higginbotham and Delbert Higginbotham and wife of the late Grider Sprouse. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles E. Sprouse. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Broadway Avenue chapel, with burial in Highland Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Survivors include a daughter, Geraldine Clark of Bowling Green; a son, Delbert W. Sprouse of San Antonio; a sister, Maple Hightower of Indianapolis; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a step granddaughter; four great-stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Azrie Higginbotham, 90, Jellico Creek Community, Williamsburg, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2003 at the Baptist Regional Medical Center, Corbin.
He was a member of the Ryans Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Ruth Jones and husband, Elbert of Cincinnati, Ohio; three sons, Raymond Higginbotham of Williamsburg, Ralph Higginbotham and wife, Betty June of Williamsburg and H.C. Higginbotham of Williamsburg; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Paul Higginbotham of Norwood, Ohio; two sisters, Ruth Murphy of Cincinnati, Ohio and Lula Jefferys of Norwood, Ohio; also several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Verlia Meadors Higginbotham and a daughter-in-law, Louise Higginbotham.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 6 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lester Cox and Rev. Herbert Wells officiating. Burial was in the Jellico Creek Cemetery.

Mary Martha Conley Higginbotham, 71, of Jacksonville, Fla., widow of Melvin Higginbotham, died Wednesday at her home.
A native of Clark County, she was the daughter of the late George Conley and Emma Irvin Conley Bishop. She was postmistress in Florida, a former floral designer and a member of the King's Road Baptist Church, Jacksonville.
Survivors include two sons, George Edwards, Las Vegas, and Kip Edwards, Hilliard, Fla.; four daughters, Linda Radke, South Boardman, Mich.; Sue Kinley, Jacksonville; Judy Swords, Doe Run, Ga., and Faye Hayes, Baxley, Ga.; two sisters, Margaret Spangler and Rebecca Gross, Clark County, and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews;
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at King's Road Baptist Church by Rev. Ben Rake, Jacksonville, and Rev. Linville Spangler, Winchester. Burial will be in the Higginbotham Cemetery, Jacksonville.

HARRODSBURG - Julia Othean Higginbotham, 85, died Thursday at Harrodsburg Health Care Center.
Born Aug. 5, 1919, in Washington County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Addie Lee Oldham Ross.
She was retired from James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital, having worked in the cafeteria. She was a member of Harrodsburg Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Higginbotham and Jerry Higginbotham, both of Harrodsburg; a brother, Loraine Ross of Harrodsburg; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home by Calvin Runner. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Willisburg.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Nichols, Buddy Shirley, Jackie Freeman, Ryan Owens, Dennis Curtsinger, Ralph Culp and Scotty Anderson.

HIGGINBOTHAM, IVA LEE GREENWELL, 96, of Louisville, formerly of Park City, died Friday, February 10, 2006, at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital in Louisville. She was a retired housekeeper for Park Mammoth Resort and a member of the Park City Baptist Church. The Bullitt County native was the daughter of the late C. W. Greenwell and Maude Clark Greenwell and the wife of the late Elmer Higginbotham. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, David Sappenfield Sr. and grandson, Jason Woods. She is survived by one daughter, Jane Sappenfield of Louisville, KY; two sons, Charles Higginbotham and his wife Bobbie of Cary, NC, and Haskel "Pete" Higginbotham and his wife Cloah of Belle Glade, FL; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; close friend, Judy Higginbotham of Horse Cave, KY; several nieces and nephews; and grand nieces and grand nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at the Park City Baptist Church with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery. Opal Poling Mathews Higginbotham (1920-2006) KY/IN
MADISON-Opal (Mathews) Higginbotham, age 85 of Hanover, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2006 at The Waters at Clifty Falls, Madison. Born March 25, 1920 in Ghent, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Charles M. and Olive Shaw Poling, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two sisters: Mary Leahigh and Mildred Sedam Williams. Mrs. Higginbotham worked as an attendant at Madison State Hospital until moving to Florida in 1961. After moving to Florida she worked at Memorial Hospital in Auburndale, Florida until she retired and moved back to Madison in 1995. She lived in Cross Plains for several years where she and Virginia Minch owned and operated the Cloverfarm General Store. She enjoyed raising all kinds of flowers and was a member of the Cross Plains United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Virgil L. Higginbotham; one daughter, Betty L. Ritchie and her husband Jim, Madison; one son, Charles Mathews and his wife Dottie, Orlando, FL.; one step-daughter, Jamie Bowers and her husband Charles, Middlesbury, FL.; eight grandchildren: James D. Ritchie, Dena Potochny, Mike Ritchie, Charlene Murray, Christine Stinson, Crystal Mathews, Chris Mathews and Catherine Blackwell; four step-grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews. HIGGINBOTHAM, IVONE S., 75, died Thursday, March 16, 2006 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. She was an inspector with G.E., and was a member of the Eastern Star and the Valley Station Baptist Church. The Edmonson County native was preceded in death by her parents, the late James W. "Wash" Sanders and the late Millie Ling Sanders; and her brother, Willard Sanders. She is survived by her husband, James "J.W." Higginbotham; her son, Jim (Leslie) Higginbotham of Falls of Rough, KY; six nieces; and two nephews. The funeral service will be noon on Monday, March 20, 2006 at the Patton Funeral Home Park City Chapel, with a burial in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2006, and after 9 a.m. on Monday.

HARRODSBURG - Jerry Higginbotham, 62, of Inman Street, died Saturday at James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 27, 1943, in Mercer County, he was the son of the late Carl and Julia Ross Higginbotham. He was a retired machinist for Universal Fasteners, a member of Harrodsburg Church of Christ and National Rifleman's Association.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Thompson Higginbotham; two daughters, Tammy Higginbotham Nichols of Danville and Carla Higginbotham of Lancaster; a brother, Michael Higginbotham of Harrodsburg; and two grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home by Raymond Castillo. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chris Higginbotham, Kevin Higginbotham, Paul Harley, Eric Harley, Steve Lyons and Lee Thompson. Honorary pallbearers are Connie Buntain, Bentley Lane, Bruce Cunningham and Lonnie Harley.

Herbert Louis Higginbotham, age 73 years died May 9, 2006 at Johnson-Mathers Nursing Home. Funeral services were held Sunday, May 14, 2006 at McCreary County Funeral Home with Rev. Dow Goodin and Rev. Daniel Ridener officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Knob cemetery.

He was born May 24, 1932 at Sawyer, Kentucky the son of the late Ancil and Mary Vanover Higginbotham, and second Mother, Amanda Perry Higginbotham. He was a retired farmer and member of Barterville United Methodist Church. He was an avid coon hunter, fisherman and storyteller. He was a member of Coon Hunters Club and Nicholas County Fish and Game Club.

Survivors include a son, Benny Ray Higginbotham, Mt. Vernon. The surviving sisters and brothers are, Elsie Lutes, Carlisle, Kentucky; Daisy Herrington, Paris, Kentucky; Raymadean Frantz, Sandusky, Ohio; James Luke Perry , Fredericksburg, Virginia; Virgil Higginbotham, Hanover, Indiana; Albert Higginbotham, Parkers Lake, Kentucky; Carlos Higginbotham, Cincinnati, Ohio; Roscoe Higginbotham, Woodbridge, Virginia, and Noah Higginbotham, Jefferson City, Missouri. A very close friend, Nellie Brierly and James Anderson, Carlisle, Kentucky, survives him. Five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews survive.

A daughter, Norma Jean Higginbotham and his parents precede him in death. The deceased brothers and sisters are, Gracie Higginbotham; Gola Alice Jane Nunley; Elizabeth Hicks; Addie Mae Perry; Archie Leonard Higginbotham; Clifton Leroy Higginbotham; and Clarence Higginbotham.

HIGGINBOTHAM Helen King, 76, of Lexington, KY passed into eternity on Sat, March 17, 2007 at Meadowbrook Care Center in Cincinnati. She was born April 7, 1930 in Logan, WV. She was the daughter of the late Oscar and Betty Hairston King. She resided in Logan until moving to Lexington in 2002. While living in Logan she was a faithful member of St. Phillip's Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and served in the church missionary circle. In Lexington she united with the Main Street Baptist Church. She enjoyed listening to gospel music, attending family gatherings and backyard gardening. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Petris Higginbotham, four brothers, Ray, William, Leon and Jimmy King; two sisters, Arleen King and Garie Richardson. She leaves to mourn two devoted children, daughter Rena (Charles) Jones of Mason, OH, and son, Thomas Tolliver of Lexington, KY. She is also survived by three sisters, Hester Poole of Joliet, IL, Eyvonne (Murray) Houston of Springfield, OH and Cynthia Culbreath; one brother, Charles (Ida) King of Joliet, IL and a sister-in-law, Barbara King of Columbus, OH. Jesse Caldwell Higginbotham, perfect and beloved son of Rebecca Woloch and Jerome Higginbotham, died from injuries sustained in an accident on April 19, 2007. In addition to his parents, Jesse is survived by his grandmother, Dorothy Higginbotham of Murray, KY, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many friends both locally and globally throughout the online community. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Harry and LaVerne Woloch. Jesse was 17 years old and a junior at Paul Laurence Dunbar, where a community-wide memorial service will be held on April 29, 2007 from 7-10pm. The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of contributions to The Jesse Higginbotham Memorial Technology Fund, c/o National City Bank, 1808 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504 to benefit the field that Jesse so passionately loved. The purpose of the trust is to advance Jesse's lifelong pursuit of existing and potential technologies to their utmost, regardless of financial resources. Farrell E. Higginbotham, 59, of Catlettsburg, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at his residence.
He was born June 7, 1948, in Ross County, Ohio, the son of the late Ora Johnson and Hazel Collier Echard of Sitka, Ky. Following the untimely passing of his father, Farrell was raised by William and Goldie Higginbotham, both of whom are deceased.
Farrell served our great nation faithfully and honorably during the Vietnam War with the U.S. Army, retired after 20 years from FCI in Ashland as a senior officer specialist and was of the Freewill Baptist faith.
Surviving are his loving wife of 37 years, Irma J. King Higginbotham; a son, Bobby Higginbotham and his wife, Anna Jo, of Catlettsburg; two grandsons, Bryce Tennison Perkins and Brett Alan Higginbotham, both of Catlettsburg; and a brother, William James Higginbotham Jr. of Morehead, Ky.
Funeral services for Farrell Higginbotham will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2007, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home on Panola Street in Catlettsburg. Pastor Rick May will offer words of comfort. Burial will be in Catlettsburg Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by American Legion Post 93 of Kenova, W.Va.

She was the former Laura Higginbotham, a native of New Jersey, a retired packer for Peyton, Inc., a member of the Volunteers of America, Kennedy group home and a parent youth worker at Gethsemane and Cedar Creek Baptist Churches. Mrs. Madison loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her many animals. She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Higginbotham Sr.; and a daughter, Deanna May. She is survived by her loving husband, Donald Madison; mother, Hester Higginbotham; children, Amy Brown (Jimmie) and Richie May (Allison); stepdaughters, Tammy Perry, Toni Craig and Tonya Jones; sisters, Joyce Lindsey, Janet Patterson, Susan Robinson, Wanda Bader and Charlene Robinson; a brother, Charles Higginbotham Jr.; 20 grandchildren including Zachary, Haley, Dylan, and Hannah Patterson, Kaelin, Olivia, Evan and Aaron May; one great-grandson, Nicholas; and a childhood friend who was like a sister, Jerri Harlow. Elizabeth Violet Squires Higginbotham (1922-2008) UT/TX/KY/OH

Elizabeth (Beth) Higginbotham, 85, beloved wife and mother, grandmother, teacher and community organizer, passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2008. She was born Elizabeth Violet Squires in Salt Lake City, Utah on December 15, 1922. After graduating from high school, she enlisted in the US Navy during World War II. She married Robert Higginbotham in 1946. Beth graduated from University of Utah and taught kindergarten. The family then moved to Galveston, Texas where she helped to organize one of the first psychiatric kindergartens in the country. Moving to Louisville, Beth became a community organizer and developed the Head Start initiative as well as other programming for young children in the community. She obtained a graduate degree in Community Development in 1971 and taught classes at Jefferson Community College and IU Southeast. She was an active member and past-president of the U of L Women's Club. She and her husband spent the last few years in Columbus, Ohio to be near their daughter and her family. Beth is survived by her husband Bob, brother Larry, children Sheila and Jeff, their spouses Phil and Elisabeth, and grandchildren Chloe, Kelsey and David. Beth was a dear friend to many and her warmth and caring will live on in those of us who loved her. Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Cave Hill Cemetery, followed by a gathering at the University of Louisville Club.

Higginbotham, 84, of New Albany, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Seabrook Dieckmann and Naville Funeral Homes, Oak Street Chapel, New Albany, with private burial. She died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, at Flaget Memorial Hospital, Bardstown, Ky. She was the former Edna Brian, a native of Louisville, a retired telephone operator from the Southern Bell Telephone Company after 32 years of service and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Survivors include her brother, Kenneth Brian and his wife, Juanita; nephews, Gary Brian and his wife, Sue, Kenneth Brian Jr. and his wife, Pam, and Rev. Kevin Brian and his wife, Betsy; and niece, Lisa Dierson and her husband, Dennis. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Higginbotham; and her parents, Adrian and Maude Brian. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the New Albany-Floyd County Animal Shelter.

Phyllis Vire Higginbotham. age 67, passed away March 26, 2010 at Golden Age Nursing Home after a 32 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. She was born November 12, 1942 in Monticello Ky., to the late Clarence and Virginia Vire. After moving to Mississippi in the early sixties, she married the late James Phillip Higginbotham, also formerly of Monticello, Ky. She lived the majority of her life in Belzoni. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Belzoni. Phyllis was a devout Christian, and loving mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents and husband she is preceded in death by her brother-Dr. Gordon Vire of Columbia Tenn. She is survived by her sisters-Marilynn Morgan of Bronston Ky., and Anita Burch of Nashville Tenn. and daughter-Kim Simcox of Greenwood Miss., a son-Phil Higginbotham of Yazoo City, Miss., and seven grandsons. Funeral services were held Monday March 29, 2010 at the funeral home chapel. Memorial can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, 6350 North Andrew Ave., Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Robert David Higginbotham (1921-2010) UT/KY

Dr. Robert David Higginbotham died peacefully June 8, 2010. Predeceased by his wife Elizabeth 2008. Survived by his brother Gene, his children Jeff and Sheila, and their families. Robert was born on March 15th, 1921 in Salt Lake City, Utah to David and Bessie Higginbotham. He spent his early years in Salt Lake, hunting and fishing with his brother Gene. He was a graduate from West High. Robert enlisted and served as a Corporal with the 1st Marine Division during World War II. He fought with his division in the Battles of Guadalcanal, Cape of Gloucester, New Britain, and Peleliu. After returning home to Salt Lake City he married Elizabeth Squires, 1946. Robert received a PhD in Bacteriology from the University of Utah and was honored with the prestigious Lederle Award. He accepted a professorship at the University of Texas Medical School - Galveston in 1958, and quickly ascended the academic ranks obtaining Full Professor within five years. Robert and family moved to Kentucky in 1967 where he was a member of the department of Microbiology at the University of Louisville until his retirement in 1990. During his prodigious career he published over 70 scientific papers and book chapters in the areas of immunology, heparin and inflammation. He mentored many students through their doctoral programs. During his retirement, Robert enjoyed life with his wife, friends, and pets. He gardened and spent time with his children and their families who love and miss him. A celebration of his life will be scheduled for a later date.

Betty Antle, 67, Russell Springs, died Monday, October 18, 2010 at her home. She was born September 12, 1943 to the late Hollis and Geneva Whittle Higginbotham. She is survived by her husband, Randall Antle, Russell Springs; one daughter, Beverly (Brian) Crow, Russell Springs; one son, Alan Antle, Russell Springs; and two grandchildren. Mrs. Antle was a dietary worker and a member of the Liberty Community Church. Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at the Wilson Funeral Home with Bro. David Coffey and Bro. William Louis "Bill" Higginbotham, died at home in Campbellsville, Kentucky on Monday, October 18, 2010. Son of the late Georgia and Orville Higginbotham, William was born November 7, 1937 in Monticello, Kentucky. William worked at the former Naval Avionics Center in Indianapolis, Indiana for 37 years as a Quality Assurance Engineer. He was married to the former Patricia Mulry of Indianapolis in 1970, who survives. After retiring they moved to the Green River Lake area in Campbellsville where he enjoyed fishing, gardening and woodworking. Other survivors include a son, William Thomas Higginbotham, 38 of Sebring, Florida, three sisters and a brother, Thomasine Hailey of Indianapolis, Judy Huffaker of Monticello, Kentucky, Jedda Fallahzadeh of Somerset and John Allen Higginbotham of Nashville, Tennessee, brother-in-law Dr. Hossein Fallahzadeh of Somerset, and many beloved nieces and nephews, spouses and children. In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Lynn, 11 years old, two sisters Virginia Kabel and Alma Jo Keeton both of Monticello, and a brother James Phillip Higginbotham of Belzoni, Mississippi. The funeral service will be held 3PM Saturday, October 23 at the Rogers Grove Baptist Church with Bro. Randy Anderson, officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 PM and Saturday from 1 to 3 PM at the Church, burial in the Elk Spring Cemetery.

Maurice Higginbotham Choate, 79 years of age, of Cumberland Valley Manor Nursing Home in Burkesville, Kentucky, formerly of Albany, Kentucky, departed this life on Wednesday, December 8th, 2010, at the Clinton County Hospital. She was born in Cumberland County, Kentucky on Wednesday June 24th, 1931. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Eura Smith Higginbotham; her husband, Estell Snow Choate; and her sisters, Jamie Lee Fletcher and Ida Victoria Head. She was survived by two sons, Judge D. Jeff (and Robin) Choate of Bronston, Kentucky and Douglas (and Susan) Choate of Somerset, Kentucky; four brothers, Hebert Lyle Higginbotham of Louisville, Kentucky, Cecil Higginbotham of Indianapolis, Indiana, Edwin Higginbotham of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Robert "Bobby" Higginbotham of Bowling Green, Kentucky; two sisters, Mary Lou Beckham of Indianapolis, Indiana and Jessie Crutchfield of La Follette, Tennessee; and four grandchildren, Dr. Beth Choate of Orono, Maine, Emily (and Calvin) Groves of Lexington, Kentucky, Tyler Choate of Bronston, Kentucky, and Matthew Choate of Somerset, Kentucky. Funeral services were held on Sunday, December 12th, 2010 in the Chapel of Campbell-New Funeral Home in Albany, Kentucky with Bro. Harlan Ogle officiating. The service included special singing by Dr. Carol Peddicord accompanied by Mrs. Marguerite Bertram on the organ and the Walnut Grove Singers. Her pallbearers were, David R. Donna Gayle Higginbotham, 64, of Harrodsburg, widow of Jerry Higginbotham died Monday, December 20, 2010 at the James B. Haggin Memorial Hospital. Born October 29, 1946 in Mercer County, Donna was the daughter of the late John T. and Annelle Cosby Thompson. Chester L. Higginbotham, age 85, of Corbin, died Monday, August 22, 2011, at Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center in Hazard. He was born in Keavy, Kentucky to the late Robert L. And Flora Gibbs Higginbotham. He was a retired employee of Diesters Inc. and attended Mt. Zion Church of God. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving his country in WWII. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife JoAnn Sunderland Higginbotham; brothers, James Higginbotham and Daniel Higginbotham; and sisters, Margie Tucker, Carey Toot and Lottie Jean Brown. Born August 12, 1915 in Russell County, she was a daughter of the late George Higginbotham and Mary Yates Higginbotham. She was the widow of Frank Robert Garner. She was also preceded in death by three daughters, Opal, Ruth Carlene and Ruby; four sisters, Polly, Myrtle, Elsie and Ruby; and one brother, Lester Higginbotham. Mrs. Garner was a homemaker. Mrs. Higginbotham was a member of the Solid Rock Church of God and a native of Cumberland County, KY. Rester is also survived by : two daughters, Sandra Leach, of Russell Springs, KY; Sharon Hill, of Russell Springs, KY; and a son, Roger Higginbotham, of Russell Springs, KY. 1 grandson and 1 great-grandson and a host of nieces and nephews also survive along with two sisters, Viola Bunch, of Jamestown, KY; Helen Hadley, of Florida.

Owen Lee Higginbotham, 9 of Taylorsville died Monday June 29, 2015 due to a vehicle accident in Simpson County. He was a student at Spencer County Elementary School. His survivors include his parents Bert Lee and Dawn Groves Higginbotham; his sister, Taylor Higginbotham; Maternal grandparents, Peggy Groves (Steve Stewart) and Melvin Groves (Judy); paternal grandparents, Bert Higginbotham (Sherry); one aunt, Samantha Harrison(Ben); one uncle, Phillip Groves and several cousins. Born June 29, 1941 Died July 4, 2015 John Allen Higginbotham, age 74 was born, June 29, 1941 the son of the late Orville and Georgia Marie Armstrong Higginbotham. He passed away Saturday, July 4th at the Wellspring Health Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is survived by his children: Paige and her husband Adnan Omran, Bradley Higginbotham and his partner Stephen Eadicicco, Tyla and husband Ed Bermudez and Blake and wife Lisa Higginbotham; his grandchildren: Chance Redmond, Zara Bermudez, Grant and Ava Omran and his surviving sisters: Thomasine Hailey, Judy Huffaker and Jedda Fallahzadeh.

Frank Higginbotham, age 71, father of Brandy Shelton and Justin Higginbotham, brother of Bertha Hurt, Barbara Black, Kathryn Kelly and Jack Higginbotham, passed away Tuesday evening at the Wayne County Hospital. The funeral service will be 1 PM Friday in the Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Danny Bell officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 9 Thursday and Friday until the service time.

Jewel Belle Stiff Dowell Higginbotham (ca1930-2015) KY

Higginbotham, Jewel Stiff, (formerly Jewel Belle Dowell), 85, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital with her family by her side. She is predeceased by her first husband, Robert Dowell, Sr. and husband, Marvin Higginbotham and 5 beloved brothers and sisters. Jewell is survived by sons, Robert “Bob” (Kimberley) and Roger Dowell; sister, Mildred Keys; grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth “Beth” (Angie) Hill and Cathy Lynn (Chris) Barrett; and great-granddaughter, Tamberley Elizabeth Barrett. Celebration of Life will be Monday, August 24, 11:00 a.m. at Ratterman Grand Chapels, 4832 Cane Run Road with burial in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Irvington, Kentucky. Ida Lavernia Higginbotham Tishner (1937-2016) KY/IN

Ida Lavernia Tishner, age 79, of Cicero, IN died June 29, 2016 at her home. She was born February 1, 1937 in Kentucky to John Crittenden and Nanny Maye (Woods) Higginbotham. Ida was the head chef at Riverview Hospital for many years. Leisure time found her enjoying gardening, reading, camping and interacting with her family. She had a special fondness for animals, especially her furry friends, Reese and Haley. She married Larry Adrian Tishner on December 27, 1954. He preceded her in death April 6th of this year. Also preceding her in death are her parents, brothers: Odas, Onel B., Oner, and John C. Higginbotham, sisters: Oda Reid and Ola Hatfield. Surviving her is a son: Larry Joe (Laura) Tishner of Atlanta, IN, daughters: Joni Warren of Bradenton, FL, and Tammy Ann (Bob) Thomas of Cicero, IN, sister: Ethel Marcum of Cicero, IN, grandchildren: Autumn (Ryan) Azeltine, Andrew (Ashley) Thomas and Amanda (Fiance'-Shaun Arnold) Thomas. Additional survivors include great-grandchildren: Tallon, Trista, Cole and Tinley Azeltine and Gavin Thomas, step granddaughters: Ginny (Joe) Murphy, Michele (Paul) Mattox, step great-grandchildren: Sara, Sam, Evan and Olivia Mattox, Alex, Ana and Sophia Murphy. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 1, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Hartley Funeral Homes Cicero Chapel, 209 West Jackson Street, Cicero, IN, 46034 with Rev. Neal Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Cicero Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until time of the services. Ruth Lewis Higginbotham, 75 of Smiths Grove died Friday, May 26, 2017 at her residence. The Barren County native was a daughter of the late Warner and Maggie Lawrence Lewis and is preceded in death by her husband Jimmy Willis Higginbotham, three brothers, Johnny, Jack and Stanley Lewis; three sisters, Doris Manley, Alene Grimsley, Vera Camp. Ruth was a housewife and a member of Oak Grove Methodist Church. Her survivors include her two daughters, Darlene Vincent (Danny) and Donna Sue Higginbotham; two grandchildren, Courtney Adwell (Kendell) and McKenzie Vincent; one great grandson, Eli Adwell, one sister, Helen Nicholas; one brother Vecheal “Buddy” Lewis; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green Chapel with burial in Rocky Hill Cemetery. Visitation 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Sandra Gail Christerson Higginbotham (1952-2017) KY

Sandra Gail Christerson Higginbotham, 65, of Ashley Ave., Springfield, died at 2:10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21, 2017, at Signature Colonial Health & Rehab Center in Bardstown. Born March 8, 1952, in Lebanon, she was preceded in death by her mother, Alberta Jones Christerson and a brother, Mark Christerson. She was a music and drama teacher at St. Joseph Elementary School in Bardstown for several years, was a graduate of Campbellsville University with bachelor's and master's degrees in music, English and history. She had also attended Bellarmine University, was a former member of Springfield Woman's Club, a consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics, had taught music in her own studio, "No Monkey Business" and was an avid lover of genealogy. She also enjoyed R.V. camping trips with her husband Larry. She was a member of Springfield Christian Church. She is survived by her husband, Larry Higginbotham; a son, Brad (Kim) Higginbotham of Hickory, North Carolina; a daughter, Shannon Pokrandt of Pensacola, Florida; her father, Kelly Christerson of Springfield and five grandchildren. Nine nieces and nephews, 16 great-nieces and nephews and one great great-niece also survive. Funeral services will be held at 11a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, at Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home in Springfield with Rev. Jesse Burns, pastor of Springfield Christian Church officiating.  Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Christerson, Todd Osbourne, Lee Russell, David Issacs, Timothy Basbagill, Derek Russell, Lupe Gaona, Cameron Mason and Steve Wheatley. Hale-Polin-Robinson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
