  Mr. Wells died Dec. 29 at Desert Valley Nursing Home. He was born April 23, 1905 at Van Horn, Texas. He lived in Casa Grande 65 years and was a resident of Arizona for 67 years. He retired from farming in 1949 where he produced cotton and alfalfa in the Peters Road area southwest of Casa Grande.
  
  Mr. Wells was an member of the first National Guard unit organized in Casa Grande and worked on the postal telegraph line built through the state. Mr. Wells is known for having brought the first Model A tractor into the Valley area for farming to replace mules. He also used the machine to construct airstrips in the desert.
  
  He, along with Virgil Lynch and Earl Osborn, were partners in the development of what is now Three Points Airport, also known as Gomez Airport, on Pinal Avenue. He was involved in gathering and taking agricultural farm products to the Arizona State Fair and worked on the first county fair in Pinal County. Mr. Wells also served as a member of the Pinal County Fair Board until illness forced his retirement in 1978.
  
  He was also an active member of the Casa Grande Valley and Pinal County historical societies.
  
  He is survived by his wife, Marie, of Casa Grande; two sons, Robert C., of Casa Grande, and William A., of Costa Mesa, California; two daughters, Charlotte Archuleta, of King, of Phoenix; one brother, Daniel, of Heber; 18 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
  
  Burial will be at Mountain View Cemetery with Revs. Brian Kile and Gideon Krein to officiate.

Coulter of Hamburg; and great-great-grandparents Callie Crow of Brazoria, TX, and Amanda Jo Fuller of Montrose. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, June 21, in the Bishop Funeral Home chapel in Lake Village with Rev. Larry Donaldson officiating. Burial followed services at the Portland Cemetery.
