    G. Edward Wells

    LEE - G. Edward Wells, 61, of Pine Street, South Lee, died this morning at his home after a short illness. A native of Newport, Vermont, he had lived here since 1930 and was sales manager at the R. E. Allen stores in Pittsfield and Lee. Mr. Wells was well known as a bowler, semiprofessional baseball and basketball player.

    He leaves his wife, the former Marjorie H. Beaujean; three daughters, Susan, Judith and Betty-Ann; a son, Dean; a brother, Alton of South Lee and several nieces and nephews.

    The funeral will be Saturday afternoon at 2 at the Chapel of the Good Shepard in South Lee, with burial in Fairmount Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kelly Funeral Home, in Lee, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

    Services for G. Edward Wells of Lee were held this afternoon at 1:30 with a prayer service at the Kelly Funeral Home and at 2 in the Chapel of the Good Shepard Church in South Lee. The Rev. Douglas Brendt, rector, officiated. Burial was in the Fairmount Cemetery. Bearers were Leon Pecon, David Bowers, Robert F. Cheny, Adam J. Bona, Lawrence F. Cernik and Maurice F. Roberts.

    BERKSHIRE WOMEN KILLED IN MAINE

    FALMOUTH, Maine - Four Western Massachusetts women were killed and two others injured Saturday about 1 p.m. when their station wagon skidded into a bridge abutment on the Maine Turnpike near here, according to state police. Dead at the scene were Mrs. Doris LaGrant, 47 of East Main Street in Stockbridge, the driver, Mrs. Marjorie Wells,52, and Mrs. Leona B. Manchester, 75, both of Pine Street in South Lee.

    Patricia A. LaGrant, of Park View Terrace in Lee, died of injuries six hours later in Maine Medical Center in Portland, about 1 miles from the crash.

    Mrs. Katherine Derrick, 43, of 27 High Street in Lee was reported in critical condition Saturday night at the hospital
