DIED OF INJURIES RECEIVED IN MINE

Wm. Jefferson Wells died last night of injuries received in the mines Thursday night, and was laid to rest in the City Cemetery this afternoon at 2:30, services being conducted by Rev. Andy Bullock.
Mr. Wells was engaged as a pumper at the mines, and while sitting against the wall of the mine, some twenty feet from his pumping station, a large rock fell, striking him in the side and inflicting fatal internal injuries. Unable to rise, and being the only workman about the place at this hour of the night, he remained there from one o'clock until seven o'clock the next morning, when other workmen discovered him. He was taken to the home of his son, John Wells, and died last night.
Mr. Wells is one of the pioneer citizens of this section, and highly respected by all who knew him. His wife, one son, two daughters and many relatives and friends are left to mourn his untimely passing. (From Saturday's Daily)
