ANOTHER PIONEER LADY PASSES TO THE BEYOND

Yesterday morning at 8:15 Mrs. Jennie R. Wells passed away at the home of her son, W. E. Wells in Red Oak, Iowa after an illness covering about a year from heart trouble. Mrs. Wells was a resident of this city and county for many years, the family having resided in South Bend and this city, and was a lady beloved and highly esteemed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her, and in her death the sympathy of the entire community will go out to the bereaved family in their hour of grief. The body of the deceased will be brought to this city tomorrow afternoon at 3:20 and be taken to the St. Luke's church, where services will be held and the interment made in Oak Hill cemetery beside her husband, who preceded her in death some years ago.

The Plattsmouth Journal, June 19, Page 8:

A GOOD WOMAN IS LAID TO REST

The Last Sad Tributes to a Loving Mother and a True Christian Lady

The funeral services of the late Mrs. Jennie R. Wells were held yesterday afternoon at 3:30 at the St. Luke's Episcopal church and were attended by a large number of old friends of this worthy lady, who gathered to pay their last tribute to her as she was laid to final rest among the scenes where so many years of her long and useful life had been spent. The body was brought here from Red Oak, Iowa, on No. 3, and was met at the Burlington station by the Woman's Relief Corps, of which Mrs. Wells had been a devoted member, and they acted as an escort to the church, where they occupied seats of honor...

... The children who are left to mourn the loss of their beloved mother were all present at her bedside during her last sickness and attended the funeral here, being: Mrs. John T. Evans, Lincoln; W. E. Wells, Red Oak, Iowa; Mrs. M. S. Kerr, Kansas City; Mrs. Charles T. Miner, Kansas City; Mrs. W. M. Deming, Broken Bow, Neb.; John M. Wells, Kansas City; Mrs. A. R. Breese, Red Oak, Iowa. All of the son-in-law of the departed lady with the exception of Mr. Deming, who was unable to attend, were present at the funeral, as was her brother, M. B. Fellows of Imogene, Iowa; the other brother, Rush O. Fellows of Belle Fourche, S. D., being at Red Oak at the time of her death. Dr. I. Breese and S. B. Breese of Red Oak accompanied the funeral party and attended the services.

Jane Rose Fellows was born November 30, 1845, at Flowerfield, Michigan, and spent her childhood days in that place, coming overland to Nebraska in the year 1858 with her father, Milo Fellows, who afterwards became one of the first postmasters of this city. Here Miss Fellows grew into womanhood and on April 27, 1863, she was united in marriage to William L. Wells, a young Nebraska soldier, who was home on a recruiting trip, and with the bravery of the women of that time, Mrs. Wells bid her bridegroom farewell and he returned to his duties in the army, serving till the close of the great civil war.

Mr. Wells served as district clerk of this county for some eight years, and the family were residents of this city until 1880, when they removed to South Bend precinct, where they resided on a farm and in that village until the death of Mr. Wells in 1894, when the family moved back to Plattsmouth and resided here until 1904, when Mrs. Wells decided to give up housekeeping, and had made her home with her children since that time. She was taken sick last October, but was able to be around until about two weeks ago, when she was taken acutely at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Breese, in Red Oak, Ia., and her condition was such that no hope was held out to the family for her recovery, and last Sunday morning she answered the call of the Master to her final reward. Mrs. Wells at an early day joined with the Protestant Episcopal church and was a lifelong and faithful member of that faith and reared her family in the belief of that church.
