Will Noah Evans
Will Noah Evans

Will Noah Evans was boprn on September 4, 1882, in the community known as Union, Lee County, Mississippi, to Hiram Noah Evans and Julia D. Tooten Evans.  He was their second to last child and it was only eight years later that his father Hiram Noah died at the young age of 52.  Will Noah was raised by his mother and older siblings and about 1900 he married Annie Shackleford.

The couple must have moved around a fair amount, but when their daughter Audrey May died at a young age in 1906, they buried her in the Union Methodist Cemetery in Lee County.  They had five other children that lived to an adult age.  Eventually they moved to West Memphis, Crittenden County, Arkansas, where Will Noah was the manager for some very large 'plantations'.  It was there on May 25, 1937, that he passed away.  Annie had apparently passed away by that time, but we are not sure where she is buried or when she died.  Will Noah's obituary made the front page news the day of his funeral at Union Methodist Church.  The obituary follows:

Rites For W.N. Evans Will Be Held At Union
Former Lee Countian Dies In West Memphis At Age of 56

The body of W.N. Evans well-known former Lee County resident, who died Tuesday in West Memphis, Ark., arrived last night from Memphis for final burial this morning at 10 o'clock at Union cemetery, 10 miles south of Tupelo on Highway 6.  He was 56 years old.
Mr. Evans was born and reared in the Union community and leaves a large number of friends there.  After his marriage to Miss. Annie Shackleford, he left Lee County almost 25 years ago and became manager of some Arkansas' largest plantations and at the time of his death he was managing two plantations near West Memphis.
He is survived by three daughters, Bessie, Polly, and Annie Lou; and two sons, David and Kelsey.  Though all his daughters now live in Memphis and his two sons in West Memphis, Mr. Evans was brought back to Union for burial beside his parents.
