Harvey Franklin Webb was the youngest child of James Franklin Webb and Pernina Catherine Blaylock Webb. He was born on October 5, 1896, in Mississippi. He moved with his family to southeastern Oklahoma as a child and grew up there. It was there that he met and married Bennie Ann Barentine in about 1917.
Bennie and Harvey had thirteen children together, and only one of them did not reach adulthood.
Harvey was a working man, very honest and would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. He was hotheaded often, and not a large fellow, but he was not to be crossed. When drafts came up for World War II, the armed forces rejected him because he had already had ten children. That was too many to support with the father away at war, so he had to find other work. Just before they came to Nebraska, he got into a bad fight with a man who was interested in Bennie Ann and Harvey beat the man very badly. When a friend suggested that good work was available on farms in Nebraska during the war he took the opportunity to leave Oklahoma and some of the trouble to move north.
The family moved to Nebraska in the spring of 1942. Harvey worked in the fields, but he also worked in the concentration camps in Lyman, Nebraksa during the war. They kept German prisoners there. He was on very good terms with the prisoners and was well respected. Utah says that he even learned German there when he was a young boy, though he has forgotten it all now, he used to be pretty good at it since they let him come into the camp with his dad quite often.
In about 1949, Bennie Ann left him with the children. She would go off and keep the youngest two with her. So Harvey, along with help from Millie, the oldest daughter, had to raise the other children by himself.
When he was older, he kept a good garden and folks always referred to him as "Mr. Webb", never by his first name. He passed away on January 27, 1975, in Morrill, Scottsbluff County, Nebraska. He is buried in nearby Mitchell, Nebraska.
