Hiram enlisted as a private in the 1st Co. B Infantry, 2nd Co. I Cavalry, later known a Company F, in Monroe County, MS.  He was honorably discharged 16 Oct. 1864.  His application states he served  three years and eight months.  Documents from the Adjutant General's office say his name appears on the muster roll of the company covering the period from January 1 to April 16, 1863.  In his application he says he was transferred " later part of 1863 infantry to calvary, Capt. James Jones. He applied for the Confederate pension in Burnet County, TX, 18 Aug. 1911. His brother John Henry Dawson was a witness that he has served in the Confederate Army.  John states that Hiram was in the Cavalry service and he was in the Infantry.  On the  application Hiram says his age on Oct 13, 1911 will be 78 years but in the statement from John Dawson he was 68. Monroe County MS 1850 census, Hiram is 5 years old. This would make him born in 1845. Dicy: 1880 Bell County Texas census listed D. Emline.  Marriage CD has Dicy Lowery.  On the application of Mortuary Warrant Mrs H.K. Dawson died in the home of her son-in-law L.G. Fagan.
