John Lowry Webb
John Lowry Webb

John Lowery as a young boyJohn Lowry Webb was born on October 22, 1893, in Fulton, Itawamba County, Mississippi.  He lived in the Clay community east of Fulton until he was about ten years old, when his family moved to the Auburn community in Lee County, a little less than twenty miles to the west.  As a young man, he was quite tall, as was his brother Dee.  They probably got this from their mother's side of the family, the Williams.

When he was eighteen years old, John Lowry married a girl from the Priceville community (just across the bottom from Auburn), Annie Nevada Lyle, who was a few months his elder.  The young couple had their first child four years later, Clara Mae.  John signed up for the draft in World War I, but a medical ailment kept him out of it.
