County Roads, Ox Paths and Foot Trails

The central point of reference will be the "Meeting House'  which was located on the spot were now stands the Walker Building.  The major roads are denoted by dotted lines and the ox paths or foot trails are denoted by solid lines.  The county road marked "leading from Worcester to Boston" is now known as Route 20 or the Old Boston Post Rd; the county road marked "leading from Worcester to Concord" the to Concord portion is now known as Concord Rd, however Concord Rd ends and becomes White Pond Rd. since the township of Hudson was developed. The remnants of old Concord Rd. can be seen on the right, just after the intersection of Concord Rd. and Sudbury St..  The path is as it was when this map was drawn, there exists the remnants of a field stone cellar that should be investigated to determine what house existed there.  White Pond Rd. now traverses to the left of White Pond.  The county road marked as "leading from Lancaster and Bolton is now known as Route 62. The ox path connecting to Williams Pond, now known as Lake Williams (more appropriately named in 1794 and also known at one time as Gates Pond) is now known as Williams St. and intersected at the opposite end of Route 20 at the set of lights at Hayes Memorial Dr. opposite Boundary St. which leads to Northboro. The path did not take this route , however, it did travel more like from Ames to Old Northboro Rd which now criss crosses Route 20 finally to boundary.  The ox path leading from the Meeting House to H. Maynards Grist Mill would now be known as Liberty St. or Windsor St., both of  which now do not connect due to the addition of Granger Blvd.  The ox path leading to Cottings Grist Mill would now be known as Farm Rd..  The ox path leading to Hagars Saw Mill may not exist for there is now Hagars Pond abutting Route 20 on which the Hagar house can be seen. The ox cart leading to C.Maynards Gristmill may well be Route 85 leading from Hudson center to Marlborough for there exists a dam just as you leave the rotary in Hudson and travel towards Marlborough.   The ox path leading to Cogswells Saw Mill is probably now known as River St. which if followed leads into Northboro.

Ponds

White Pond Rd can be found off of White Pond Rd and seen by accessing Rout 62 and heading towards Hudson.  Hagar Pond did not exist at this time. Williams Pond is at the intersection of Rout 20 and Williams St.  Brighams Pond can be found at the border of Marlborough and Northboro off of Robin Hill Rd. St..  Hows Pond is an area of water which is located near the Westerly Treatment Plant..  Of particular interest is that "Fort Meadow" is not seen on this map.  Fort Meadow was an open area of grass and meadow used for the grazing of cattle.  The area was flooded in 1849.
