This Web Version of the Anthony Halmer Family Tree is an ongoing work. Created and maintained by Cara (Holmer) Roberts, with the assistance of Chuck Holmer, Beth Walliser and Larry Holmer compiling the data. With luck (fingers crossed) we will be able to put this in book format also. So far we have been able to trace the Seneca county Holmer family back to Anthony Halmer. From several stories, we have learned that he came to this area in the 1840's, due to the warring and political turmoil in Germany. He traveled with a few other family and friends to the United States. They settled in Ohio (Seneca, Huron and surrounding counties) It is said that when they processed his papers upon entering the country, they mispelled his name as Holmer, instead of Halmer. He pretty much kept the change. After he settled in his new homeland, he met and married a widow by the name of Mary Greiger (sp) who had a son. He adopted the boy as his own. We have located Anthony's will, and are working on finding his wife Mary's. Any comments, suggestions, problems or mistakes? Please write and let me know.
