Biography Dows Gen.: He was fitted for college at the Farmington and Wilton Academies and at the Nichols Latin School. He entered Bates College in 1866; after graduating, spent 2 years at Bates Theological School. In 1872 he was chosen pastor at the Free Baptist Chr., Lawrence, Mass. In 1876 he received a call to the Roger Williams Church, Providence RI, but declined it at the soliciation of the Lawrence Church, remaining until Oct 1, 1880, when he resigned due to poor health. He took a 4 month trip to Europe in 1878, but this did not help. After his resignation, he went to Colorado and remained there until Apr. 1881. No improvement appearing, he returned to Weld, where he died Oct 2, 1881. Though frail of body, he possessed a face indicative of great intelligenc, energy, and purity of character. By nature he was a student and greatly attached to his books; and being frank and true to his fellow students, naturally social and sympathetic, he won many friends...By his will the Bates College recieved his library and the money he had accumulated.¹⁰
