Houghton, Jeanette 11/20/1939 - 2/26/2016 Greenville Jeanette Houghton passed away on February 26, 2016. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Teri Linn Marsh; her sister, Phyllis Gorby; and parents, Everet and Vernetta (Swett) Root. She is survived by her children: Dr. Lori Houghton-Rahrig (Kevin Rahrig), George Marsh (Deb Scott), Christopher (Brenda) Houghton, Craig Houghton (Amy Allison-Houghton), and their father, Charles Houghton. She is also survived by her sister, Dr. Kay Scanlon (Barry Glazer), her brother, Darwin (Linda) Root and brother-in-law, Harold Gorby. Finally, the loves of her life, her grandchildren: Liz (Corey) Humfleet, Paul (Beth) Rahrig, Peter Rahrig and friend, Emily Lemmen, Todd (Samantha) Marsh, Katie Suave and Jason Suave, Liam Marsh, Andrew Houghton, Isaac Houghton, Carter Houghton and Reese Houghton as well as her great-grandchildren: Benjamin Humfleet and Jackson Suave. Jeanette is also survived by her many friends, especially Sonja Ruble who helped her with many activities of her life. Jeanette graduated with honors from Lakeview High School in 1958. She attended Blodgett School of Nursing immediately after high school, stopping to raise her family. Later in life, she attended Montcalm Community College and received a Bachelor in Business Degree from Central Michigan University and an Associate Degree in Nursing from Ferris State University. Jeanette was known for her compassionate care of others in life and as a registered nurse. Jeanette was a renal transplant and cardiac intermediate care nurse at Mercy Health St. Mary's, then known as St. Mary's Hospital. Proud of her profession, caring was her lifelong passion. We were fortunate to have had another nine and a-half years with mom following her lung transplant at Cleveland Clinic. She and her family are appreciative of the care she received from the stellar RNs, PCAs, Respiratory Therapists and Physicians at Spectrum Health's Medical and Cardio- Thoracic ICU and of the care provided by the providers and caregivers of the Richard DeVos Heart and Lung Transplant Clinic. Funeral Services will take place on Tuesday, March 1 at 11 AM at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville, with Pastor Ron David officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, February 29th from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. Interment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery. In the spirit of Jeanette's passion of caring for others, memorials are suggested to the Grand Valley State University, Teri Linn (Houghton) Marsh Endowed Memorial Nursing Scholarship in honor of Jeanette and her passion of caring for others.
