World, Hiawatha, KS, USA, Chester Houghton was struck by a Grand Island freight train Friday afternoon and had his arm fractured and his shoulder badly torn and bruised. The train crew were switching in the Hiawatha yards and Houghton was picking up coal along the tracks. As the train passed by him, he stepped too close and was struck by a passing car. He is a rather feeble old man and the shock was almost as bad as the injury. However he is getting along nicely now and will probably recover in spite of the effect of the collision. He walked home before the train crew reached him and they supposed he was not hurt.

Chester Houghton died at the Pacific House Friday morning at the age of 83. Some time ago he received injuries by being struck by a freight car. Mr. Houghton came here about three years ago from Auburn, Neb. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Baxter Waters Saturday at three o'clock. Interment was made in the old cemetery.
