Died – On Sunday, May 24th, the Angel of Death claimed as a victim little Hazel Hope Houghton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Houghton. The child was taken ill the Friday before with cholera infantum and her tiny form after battling with the disease for three days and nights, at last succumbed. The funeral took place on Tuesday and the remains were interred in the cemetery at Newville. Little Hazel was born at the Houghton ranch on July 28th, 1900, and during the brief span of her life was the joy and pride of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Houghton have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in this their hour of bereavement.

Deceased Name: Rowell Houghton
Rowell Stratton Houghton, 89, died Sunday in a Henderson hospital.

He was born Oct. 19, 1913, in La Grande, Ore. A retired Air Force veteran who served during World War II, he was a four-year resident of Henderson and a member of Eastgate Masonic Lodge, Portland Scottish Rite, Al Kader Temple, Friendship Chapter 115 OES, Sojourners, Heroes of '76, Lloyd Center Lion Club and the National World War II Glider Pilot Association.

He is survived by his wife, Mercedes of Henderson; daughter, Jodie Tibbetts of Portland, Ore; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at noon Saturday at Community Church of Henderson. The family requests memorial donations be made to Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation. Palm Mortuary-Henderson handed arrangements.⁶

Mrs. Houghton, who was born Aug. 24, 1914, in Great Falls, Mont., died of cancer June 27, 1995. She was 80.

She lived in Portland for 60 years. She worked for Meier & Frank Co. from 1936 to 1942 and was a machine bookkeeper for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for two years.

In 1938, she married Rowell S. Houghton. Her maiden name was Andersen.

Survivors include her husband, her daughter, Jodie L. Tibbetts of Portland, and two grandchildren.

Interment: Willamette National Cemetery.

Remembrances: Legacy Hospice or Lions Sight & Hearing Foundation.

Arrangements: Ross Hollywood Chapel.
