ObituaryPriest 32 Years Rector St. Paul's Church

St. Paul's pro-cathedral, Second and Lawrence streets, is an impressive monument to the work of Rev. Edward Haughton, rector of the parish for 31 years until his retirement in the summer of 1942. For the last four years, three of which he has lived without his devoted wife, Rev. Haughton continued a guiding spirit over the welfare of those who came in contact with him.

His death yesterday was a loss to our community, and especially to the many who had profited by the priest's wise counsel. As a young man in the ministry he carried the word of God among the humble home near the collieries of Scranton, PA., and found the problems and nature of those people quite similar to the troubles of his affluent Springfield parish. Rev. Haughton's great passion for people and a deep desire really to know them has left behind many friends and parishioners to carry on in his intensely human manner. IL State Journal, Springfield, IL, 5-24-1946

Survived by brothers Charles and Rev. T., R. Haughton; sisters Mrs. Frank Rogerson, Mrs. Charles Asquith, Mrs. S. R. A. Clement and Mrs. C. C. McNeil; niece Miss Virginia Haughton Williams. Virginia is buried in the same plot as him.
