Whitaker's Pier, across the street from the Lake Shore Hotel sat one of the most ambitious yet short lived entertainment facilities. Built in 1899 by Issac Whitaker it was 144 feet on a side and 3 stories tall. Bandstands at each, and a bowling alley in the lower level. Unforturntely he built this during a period of low water, and as the water rose, his building flooded. After several winters of ice damage it was torn down in 1904, earning the structure name "Whitaker's Folly".....
