M, b. 25 July 1787, d. 22 April 1838
Birth* | 25 July 1787 | James Everingham was born on 25 July 1787.2 |

Death* | 22 April 1838 | James Everingham died on 22 April 1838 at Fairton, Fairfield Twp., Cumberland Co., New Jersey, at age 50.2 |
Burial* | after 22 April 1838 | He was buried after 22 April 1838 at Swing Cemetery, Fairton, Fairfield Twp., Cumberland Co., New Jersey.2 |
Note* | | After a great deal of investigation I am 99.9% sure that your Everinghams came from the Upper Freehold Everinghams of the 1740s. The reason is partly due to the Robbins family who lived next door to the Henry & Rachel Everingham family. A grandson of the family of Benjamin & Judith Robbins, named Nathaniel Robbins, married a woman named Mary Swain and settled in Salem County NJ (not far from Fairton Cumberland County). It appears that he was one of numerous 'refugees' from the Upper Freehold NJ area who moved into that area presumably because of the availibility of cheap land. While it isn't entirley clear what prompted a number of the residents from Upper Freehold (although I would suspect it had its roots in the English laws on primogeniture) to relocate to the area it is VERY clear that many of them came down to that area.
Your James Everingham almost certainly was one of the Everinghams from the Upper Freehold/New Hanover area who is unaccounted for in some records. Again this is nothing definite, but in following the Benjamin & Judith Robbins family of Upper Freehold NJ I have found that more than a few of them preceeded the Everinghams into different areas of the country.4 |
