Notes from Handwritten manuscript of Augusta Austin Pettit in the SCHS;
is found the name of John Webber, of Salem co, private" He could not have been more than 18 years of age at the close of the Revolutionary war ( 1783-4) Possibly he never saw any actual service if he belonged to the militia. ane or was in ___of duty if needed yet it is quite probable the he was called out at the ____ of ___at Hancock's bridge. But many joined who were yet younger and my standard in this by the before mentioned Mrs. Tolbert, says has heard her mother speak of his enlistment and going to the war. By some means or another her mother had John Webber's "queue" in her possession and whenever this curiosity was brought forth as it occasionally would be, it always brought with it many remininscences to be related by Mary (Webber) Paullin. One thing she told was that her father John died of a terrible fever, the same that is called typhoid now. John evidently became possessed of all or most of his father's farms in due course of time for it was there that he lived and died. *

*He may have been there, but Thomas Webber died a year after his son, so I doubt there was a legal change of title. The deposition from 2056Q for Thomas Webber 1795, Intestate ( without a will) clearly indicates two properties, one in Mannington where Thomas lived, and another in Pennsneck, then occupied by David Paullin. vnc

John Webber left his widow with two children: Henry Webber b. Sept 26, 1791 and Rebecca Webber b. March 12, 1794 who m. William Patterson ( Benj. inserted above, either as a middle initial or as son of? can't tell) . Had a dtr. Mary (Patterson _I assume vnc) who married David Flynn(?) she died and then her sister Margaret married him and mother her sisters children, whose names were John , Janette and Unis Mary and Annie, the last m. Jane and went ___? Mary m. T. Sparks and they have sone ___ and dt. Margaret who m. ___(left blank) . Harvey. Rebecca (Webber) Patterson's son Wm. married and left issue, one of whom is Benj. Patterson of Woodstown Moniter and Register (I believe this a reference to the Newspaper of that name) ; one son, Carl ---Rebecca Webber Pattrus d_ Sarah m. late in life Charles Padgett of Harrisonville - no issue. Warren Sparks m.__ Bowen, d. leaving one dau.

------------

I need to contact Joyce Toppin, see if she can help me with the Paullin/Tobert connection - but that seems to be what I'm seeing here.
