55. Joseph Hoxsie was born on 25 Feb 1707/8 in Westerly, Washington, Rhode Island Colony. He died in 1777 in Richmond, Washington, Rhode Island. Son of John Hoxsie and Mary (Hull) Hoxsie.

An extract from L. R. Hoxie's "Three Centuries In America.

"Joseph Hoxsie appears to have been the first family to break away from the Friends faith, marrying a Baptist and probably be. coming one himself. ________ Joseph Hoxsie was made a freeman at Westerly, 4 May 1736. Elected fence viewer and surveyor of highways upon organization of Charlestown, 1738. Justice of the Peace 1741-43. Elected to town council upon organization of Richmond, 1747. Elected Deputy to Rhode Island Assembly, 1752. He was a farmer, having bought a farm of Benjamin Clark."

Joseph Hoxsie and Deborah Babcock were married on 17 Oct 1728 in South Kingstown, Newport, Rhode Island Colony. Deborah Babcock (daughter of Job Babcock and Deborah Reynolds) was born about 1708 in South Kingstown, Newport, Rhode Island Colony. She died before 1760 in Richmond, Washington, Rhode Island Colony.
