Sometime around 1907-1915, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, a young man named Ruven Genkin met a young woman named Sadie Rincover. They fell in love, and married, and that's the middle of this story! Where they came from, who their sisters, brothers, cousins, and rest of their family were, and where all those relatives' descendants are today, is the purpose of this website. If they're your family too, maybe you'll pass on to this webmaster stories, memories, and photos, so our entire "family forest" (bigger than one family tree, it is!) can enjoy them, too. Please also visit our main website, at www.mymishpocha.net. You'll find more photos, family trees, maps, and more. Ruven Genkin became Ruby Henkin as he blended into the New World. He and Sadie, and some of their sisters and brothers, eventually settled in California, because, according to Ruby's sister, Toronto was too cold, and California was always sunny. If any of these names or stories sound familar to you, and you haven't written me, please do - we may be related! Ruby Henkin and Sadie Rincover, for their 1916 wedding Henkin, GenkinRuby's father was Nachum Genkin, who died while his wife Hilda was pregnant with their son. Some of Nachum's five or six siblings were reputedly born in Orsha, north of Mogilev. Three of these siblings brought their families to North America, at different times and to different cities. The rest stayed in Russia, and are now in Mogilev, Belarus and St. Petersburg, Russia. BerlinRuby's mother was Hilda Berlin. She came from a large family, but apparently very few of them ever left Russia. We know her youngest brother (20 years younger!) came to Canada and California, but all awareness of the other families has been lost. Rincover, HerincoverSadie's father was Joseph Herincover. The Rincovers came from Galatz, Roumania, and possibly Prajeni before that (Prajeni is northwest of Galatz). So far, we know of four brothers. Joseph took his family to Toronto, while the others stayed in Romania. The children of one brother settled in England, while the families of the third and fourth brothers are now in Israel. We have some tantalizing clues that there were sisters, but we've been unable to confirm details so far. Wisenthal, Wiesenthal, Visenthal, etc.Sadie's mother was Shifra Wisenthal. Shifra and her sister Rifka brought most of their families to Canada. We think our Wiesenthals were from Romania, and might have migrated southwest from Galicia and Bukovina. We're trying to confirm the details. This page was last updated on Sept. 14, 2006 .
