Sons of the American Revolution - Illinois Chapter

Kane county has the honor of being the resting place of at least one Revolutionary soldier who died and is buried at Canada Corners near Lily Lake, in 1852.  In 1901 a committee was appointed to consider the erection of a monument to his memory.  The committee comprised of JOHN STEWART, J.J. READ, L.M. GROSS, John WINTERHALLER and the superindendent of DeKalb County schools.  Kane county supervisors appropriated $200, the Daughters of the Revolution contributed $25, and $475 additional was raised.  On July 4, 1902, the monument was dedicated in the presence of a large assembly of people.  Mr. FRANK W. JOSLYN made a talk, following whom Mr. MILLER, President of the Hamilton Club, of Chicago, gave the address of the occasion.  The monument contains the following inscription:

ABNER POWERS 1760 - 1852

Bennington - Saratoga - Valley Forge - Yorktown

The veteran of the Revolution was the father of MANLY POWERS, of Virgil, Kane County.

The monument is west of St. Charles on Hwy 64 near the intersection of Dean Road.
