Chief Nickaway

The Pottawattomie tribe, of Chief Nickaway's clan, was located on about 5 acres east, of what later became Dundee.  This band was related to Chief Waubonsie's band then located in Big Woods south of Batavia.

JESSIE OATMAN who arrived in the area around 1835 described the Indian village as being located 80 rods below the brickyard with six wigwams (or huts) containing some 25 Indians.

These native Americans occupied and hunted lands that became Michigan and northern Illinois.  Their villages being situated around Lake Michigan, and along the Fox and Illinois Rivers.
