The Harrells My oldest
daughter began collecting genealogical information on my maternal side back in
the 1980's. Much of the information we had was from notes and conversations
with Pauline (Harrell) Muenster and from a distant cousin, Don Mitchell. Don
had published a book in 1989, detailing "Five Generations of A Mitchell
Family". The Harrell- Mitchell connection is shown in the second
generation below. Based on the previous research, we began digging more into
the Harrell family. In February 2009, we found more new relatives and a wealth
of new information. Most notable were the contributions of John L. Harrell in
Maryland, who had many Harrell family photos and other data and Sue Mullins in
California, a descendent of Bailey S. Harrell whose family bible she possessed.
The bible contained handwritten notes and records of Bailey's and other Harrell
families. The scanned and transcribed portions of the bible are available on
the USGenWeb project for Hamilton County Ohio. Rebecca Pauline Harrell,
the younger of Herschel and Ruth Harrell's two daughters, was born on 6 August
1922 in rural Shelby County Indiana. After her mother's death, she and her
sister Eleanor Bernice, went to the Soldiers' and Sailors' Home in Knightstown
Indiana. The records show both girls were admitted on 3 Aug 1925 and that
Herschel was residing in Lebanon, Boone Co. at the time (presumably this was
at his sister Carrie Bowman's). On graduation from high school, both girls
were discharged from the home (Eleanor on 10 June 1939 and Pauline on 8 June
1940) and went to stay with her grandparents, Elmer and Mollie Swift in Waldron
Indiana. (Source: Indiana State Archives, Commission on Public Records). On
8 April 1944, Pauline married Albert Charles Scott. They were divorced in 1954.
On 15 January 1955, Pauline married Robert Otto Muenster. Bob died on 19
December 1994 in Greensburg Indiana and Pauline passed away in Indianapolis on
27 August 2004. They are buried together at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery
in Hamilton County Indiana. First Generation Herschel & Ruth Avis (Swift) Harrell Herschel was born in St. Paul, Clay twp,

where he was wounded in action in the Argonne on 13 September 1918. He was
discharged in August 1919 and he returned to Indiana, where he married Ruth
Avis Swift on 28 December 1919. To this union were born two daughters, Eleanor
Bernice on 6 October 1920 and Pauline in 1922. Ruth died of tuberculosis on 10
