Toner, ó Tomhnair A Gaelic surname meaning descendant of Tomhnar (a Norse personal name). A sept of the Cineál Eoghain who were seated near Lough Swilly in Donegal, where they built the church called for them Cill ó dTomhnair, now anglicised Killodonnell. In 1890 the surname was principally found in Armagh, Derry and Antrim, and the estimated number of bearers was 1,880.
