PRIDDY CEMETERY

The Priddy cemetery is located about 2 miles south of Priddy, Texas at the site near where the Bismark school stood. just off Hwy 16 south.   I Surveyed this cemetery on April 17, 1998. There were 83 marked graves at that time in this cemetery.

I do not have an address for the Cemetery Association for Memorials or questions, please contact Caroline Schwartz, County Historian, for that information.

The Legend is as follows;

NUMBER = a number I assigned each grave starting at the South east corner, going left to right on each row. (this was because I was unable to obtain a plot map)

TYPE

DS = Double Headstone
SS = Single Headstone
FM = Funeral Home Marker (whenever possible, Funeral home name will be in "Other")

I have made all attempts to avoid mistakes, but I am after all only human, If there are any errors, I am truly sorry and will make note of any errors brought to my attention.

Obituary for George W. Priddy

Transcribed from the Goldthwaite Eagle-Mullin Enterprise, dated January 23, 1915 (Poor reverse image photocopy)

GEORGE PRIDDY DEAD

Mr. George W. Priddy died at his home in the Priddy community last Saturday Morning about 10 o'clock after a long illness with bladder trouble. His death was not unexpected, as his condition had been known to be critical for two years and for the past several months his recovery was known to be next to impossible.

Mr. Priddy was the eldest son of Rev. T. J. Priddy and was a resident of the county for many years having moved here from Bell County in 1887. He was an honorable, upright man and a valuable citizen. He was a quiet and unassuming but all who knew him realized that he was an honest man of true worth. His influence was ever on the side of right and justice and for the betterment of mankind. The world needs such men as George Priddy and his loss is not confined alone to his family, but to the community and county.

He leaves a widow and a large family of sons and daughters, besides other relatives and to all of them the Eagle extends sincere sympathy.

Obituary for Lula May Hopper

Transcribed from the Goldthwaite Eagle-Mullin Enterprise, dated December 8, 1906 (fair photocopy with the exception of one corner torn from article and losing 4 lines of article)

From the Column submitted for PRIDDY
Editor Eagle:

Last Thursday morning the death messenger visited the quiet home of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hopper and summoned their little daughter, Lula, to go to the heavenly home, where there is no more sickness, sorrow or death and love becomes immortal. She had been sick for only a few days and her death was caused by a congestive chill. All that could be done for her was done, but death conquered. Her death brought sorrow to many hearts, but lets rejoice and look forward to some sweet morn when we will be called from this world and all its disappointments to a land of never dying love, where we will meet sweet little Lula and dwell together in that celestial home for ever more, ___ the parents and relatives of _____this little child ____ to the____ ____ ____ comfort and ___ ____ ____ they cannot call her back, but by living right and walking in the beautiful way that they will be let into that glorious abode and meet their precious darling. Her remains were interred in the Priddy cemetery Friday to wait the resurrection morn.
