Eliza’s father, Henry Furr was born 1717 in Gassau, Switzerland and died 1769 in Anson Co., NC.  Her mother, Russena Raffor was born 1720 in Purrysburg, GA and death UNK.  Eliza has a brother, Leonard Furr, born about 1755 in Stanley, NC and died somewhere between 1830 -1835 in Allen, Copiah Co., MS.  For more details on the Furr family, see Appendix I – Surname: Furr.

Owen’ Father, Thomas Carpenter (b. abt. 1740 in NC / d. 1780 in NC) married Catherine Shamberger (b. abt. 1743 in NC / d. UNK) around 1759 in NC.  They lived in Bear Creek, Moore Co., NC.  Thomas is buried in Shamberger Cemetery, Montgomery Co., NC.  Thomas and his youngest son died at the hands British soldiers by being shot during the American Revolution.  For more details on the Carpenter family, see Appendix I – Surname: Carpenter.

MS, Elizabeth Smith (b. 11 May 1801 in Franklin Co. MS / d. 1864) which was her second marriage as well, the daughter of Isaac Smith and Elizabeth Jane Furr.  Her first husband was Elias Steen.  This second marriage was to his cousin and they had no children.

Venton Dale Harris, 73, died Saturday, May 3, 2003, at his residence in Mize. Visitation was after 10:00 Tuesday at Lakewood Funeral Home. Chapel service is 11:00 Tuesday, with interment following in Lakewood Memorial Park. Mr. Harris was born in smith County in 1929 to the late Ambrose Harris and Ruby Thornton Harris. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army serving in England during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1, and a Mason. He had been a Jackson resident for over 30 years, and had moved back to Mize 10 years ago. He was Pentecostal.  Mr. Harris is survived by his loving family; two son, Richard Cummins of Brookhaven and Mickey Cummins of Jackson; three daughters, Diane Davis of Jackson, Gayle Case of Richland, and Miriam Ann Harris of Berkshire, England; one brother Tommy Wayne Harris of Laurel; two sisters, Audrey Dean Lawrence of Clinton and Glenda Green of Jackson; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. His parents, his wife, Grace Grant Harris, and a brother, Joel Harris, preceded him in death. Interment was made in Leaf River Baptist Church Cemetery in Pineville, MS.  Pallbearers were Kenneth Harris, Sr., Kenneth Harris, Jr., Edwin Lawrence, Gary Wilkerson, Tommy Wilkerson, and Daniel Tucker.  Mr. Harris passed away on Monday, February 9, 2004, at Magee General Hospital of congestive heart failure. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving as a Private. A native of Smith County, Mr. Harris resided in Mize, MS.  Survivors include sisters, Glenda Greene of Pearl and Audrey Dean Lawrence of Clinton; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ruby Thornton Harris and Ambrose Harris; brothers, Venton Dale Harris and Joel Kenneth Harris.

Mrs. Ruth H. Harris, 83, of Raleigh, died August 4, 2000, at Rolling Acres Retirement Center, Raleigh.

A lifelong resident of Raleigh, Mrs. Harris was a member of Pleasant Hill Methodist Church/Double Church in Smith County. She was preceded in death by her husband, H.C. Funeral services for Vera Smith Wicker, 87, were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at the Ott & Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Forest. Rev. Tam Maddox, Rev. Tommy Anderson and Rev. Carey Smith officiated. Interment was made in Homewood Methodist Cemetery, Homewood, MS. Mrs. Wicker passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2002, at Rolling Acres Retirement Center. Mrs. Wicker was a native of Smith County and lived all of her adult life in the Homewood Community from 1933-1993 before moving to Rolling Acres Retirement Center in Raleigh. She was a member of Homewood Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School at Homewood Baptist Church and also taught several years at Homewood Methodist Church. Mrs. Wicker was a member of the Smith County Singing convention, MS State Singing Convention and the Smith County Senior Citizens Quartet. Survivors include one son, Andrew Wayne Wicker and wife, Rose of Pulaski; one daughter, Helen Wicker McWilliams

Westbrook, James "Buddy"

Funeral services for James "Buddy" Westbrook, 58, of Raleigh were held Monday, July 5, 2004, at South Raleigh Christian Church in Raleigh. Rev. Archie Taflinger and Rev. Herman Kelly officiated. Interment was made in the church cemetery. Mr. Westbrook passed away July 2, 2004, at Covington County Hospital in Collins. A retired farmer, he was a Mason and a member of Cohay Lodge. He was a member of South Raleigh Christian Church and was also a founder of the church.
