[Note regarding militia rolls, these were abstracted from the Pennsylvania Archives.  The Pennsylvania legislature passed a draft act effective 31 Jul 1777 that required all able-bodied men aged 18-52 inclusive to be formed into companies.  The designation of Class one through eight was a rotation system, to where only  two classes would be on active duty at one time, while the other six classes could farm and protect their communities. Prior to 31 Jul 1777 service was done on a voluntary basis and it is much harder to determine which township the soldier came from]

David has made a change of his place for the place where Andrew Walker lived at the creek."  He belives the debts owed to Hugh Torrance's est. will wipe out the 419 pounds of value in his brother, Alexander's personal estate.  Said it  will be hard to sell his brother's two tracts as the Casanaga lands near to Lake Erie had depressed land values.

[Letter23 Apr 1805 from Daniel and Jean McDannell of  Mifflin twp., Cumberland Co., PA to Ann Walker of Rockingham Co., NC (Jean and Ann were siblings of Alexander McClintock 1749-1795), concerning: sympathies for the loss of Ann Walker's husband James Walker and also her son, sometime before May, 1804.  Mention the troubles and debts on their brother Alexander's estate, indebted to Hugh Torrance's estate for  301 pounds, plus Alexander had bonded  himself to satisfy some of his brother Daniel's debts in his "Cannigogig" land dealings.  They had to get an attorney to stave off a Sheriff's sale of Alexander's two tracts to satisfy debts.  The court appointed five men to audit the estates accounts and found that Daniel had some of the money that was still missing.  They were having trouble selling the upper tract.  Daniel's share of the estate was sold out by the sheriff some time ago.  Jean said that many people in Mifflin township had died from a sickness in the summer of 1804, but that the Ralstons, Daniel McClintock and Sarah McClintock had "stood it."

[William McClintock, witness to Simon Lamberton's Codicil, N. Middleton twp.]

Notes:   The tax returns for 1750-53 and 1762 are incomplete, not all the township returns have survived.  I abstracted the 1778-1785 returns from the Penn. Archives Series, the rest of the lists were taken from  the original manuscripts on  microfilm.   The abbreviations used are as follows:  C = cattle,  H = horses,  L  =  Livestock, S= Sheep.  Mss = manuscript.  The tax returns from 1762 to 1766 are incomplete for all townships.
