Will of William Jackson of Dale Parish
To son Mathew 150 acres in Henrico County on south side of Swift Creek,
upon Licking Creek, where he lately lived and 1 negro after death of his
mother Sarah Jackson; to son William 177 acres in Amelia County on Mayes
Branch on lower side, and 1 negro; To son John, 200 acres in Amelia on
lower end of my survey on Beaver Pond Branch, negro and items; To cousin
Thomas Neal, son of Thomas Neal, 200 acres; To my friend John Brown all
of my land on Mayes Branch, part of a survey of 260 acres, Rest of land
on upper side of Mayes Branch to my son Francis, 200 acres, plus 1 negro
and items; To son Mark,100 acres on north side of Swift Creek on upper
end of land where I live, 1 negro and items; To son Thomas, all land and
plantation where I live, also 80 acres on Licking Creek, at lower end of
his brother Mathew’s line, and 1 negro

land was purchased by the said Hudson of a certain John Burton by deed
recorded in Amelia on Jan. 17, 1745/6.

Jackson, decd, and it is the same land that the said Joseph Jackson
purchased of Mathew Jackson, son and heir of William Jackson, decd, as
per the said Joseph Jackson’s deed from the said Mathew Jackson recorded
in Amelia on March 15, 1750. The land adjoins John Brown, Nicholas
Hudson, James Chappel, Christopher Ford, Stewart Farley and the said
William Jackson.

now live lying above Taylor’s Branch; also 4 negroes York, Sawney, Sucky
& Jenny; also horses (incl. Bay mare named Amey Pardue) & livestock on
place where I now live, she to choose them (excepting yoke of steers) &
certain furniture & household goods at the place; desire her grain to be
ground gratis so long as she lives or the mill stands; at her decease,
aforementioned est. to be equally divided between my sons James, John,
Miles, Abner & Robert. Son James Chappell, land purch. Of William Watson
whereon he now lives. Son John Chappell, land he now lives on purchased

And 1 woman’s saddle. Should my wife not abide by my will, sd daughter
Dorothy to have 5 shillings current money only. If my wife abide by my
will, give to daughter. Caty Chappell 3 negroes Hannah, Will, son of
Sucky & Lyddia, daughter. Of Jenney; also 1 feather bed & furniture & 1
woman’s saddle. Should my wife not abide by my will, give sd daughter.
Caty 5 shillings current money only. Rem. Est. not heretofore disposed
of to be equally disposed among my 5 sons James, John, Miles, Abner &
Robert in this manner: that is, allotted as equally as it can
conveniently be done by some indifferent or disinterested person and
drawn for, but those drawing the most valuable lot to pay for the
proportion to those drawing a lot of less value. Estate not to be
appraised. 100 pounds to be raised out of my estate by Ex. And given my
2 sons Abner & Robert, my 2 daughters. Dorothy & Caty, that is to say,
25 pounds to each of them for their maintenance, bringing up, and
