Death of David Hay There passed away at the family residence, Metcalfe St., on the 8th of May, David Hay, in his 87th year. Though he had been ill since October, death came suddenly. He was born in Arkona, where he grew to young manhood. He then went to Saginaw, Mich., where he engaged in the lumbering business for some years before returning to Warwick, where he took up farming. Seven years ago he retired to Strathroy, where he had since resided. He is survived by his widow, formerly Bruzina Woodbridge of Detroit, and three daughters and two sons: Mrs. Stella Smith, of Gladstone, Man.; Mrs. Wm. Gunness, of Starbuck, Man.; Miss Grace and Andrew and Harold, at home. The funeral took place on Friday afternoon from the family residence to Wisbeach cemetery, the services being conducted by Rev. George Pugsley. The pallbearers were: Messrs. R. M. Trueman, E. Plaxton, G. Robotham, E. J. Wright, R. H. Wilson and F. L. E. Evans. Among those from a distance attending the funeral were Mrs. Potter, of Detroit, Mrs. E. J. Mackie, of Seers, Mich., and Andrew Hay, of Watford.

It is our sad duty to record the death of Edward Rumball Hay, second eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. David Hay, which took place at Sudbury on July 1st. The deceased left here in March to visit his brother Walter in Manitoba and while there was taken sick with typhoid fever. As soon as he was able to be around again he left for home, but becoming worse again he was obliged to stop at Sudbury where he has remained for the past two months. He had been steadily gaining in health and was expected to leave for home on the first of July but on the day before he was taken with a sudden relapse and died the following noon. The remains were sent home, arriving at Thedford at 6 o'clock Monday evening, and were taken to the family residence, 4th line Warwick. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon to the Wisbeach cemetery. The services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Hannahson, assisted by the Woodmen of the World and the Maccabees of which the deceased was a member. Mr. and Mrs. Hay have the deep sympathy of the community in their bereavement.

Mrs. Matilda Williams, wife of Alfred Williams, departed from this life on the 18th of November, 1913, in her 70th year. She was born in Blenheim, county of Waterloo, and removed with her parents, the late Richard Hipkins and family, to the 4th line, S.E.R., Warwick, in the year 1853, and there lived until her marriage to Alfred Williams and removed to Wisbeach, where she still resided. In early life she was a Methodist, but later on she united with the Church of England, and after a few weeks of illness passed with the redeemed. Beside her husband she leaves to mourn her loss two sisters, namely, Mrs. William Morgan, of Kingscourt, and Mrs. David Williamson, of Sutorville; and one brother Thomas Hipkins, of Flint, Mich; one daughter, Mrs. Wm. Topping of Arkona, and one son, Richard, at home. The funeral took place on Thursday afternoon to Wisbeach cemetery, Rev. W.M. Shore officiating. The pallbearers were John, Thomas and Geo. Chambers, William Waun, C. Williams and J. Williams.

MRS. JAMES A. McINTOSH A sad death occurred on Friday morning at her late residence, lot 18, concession 1, Warwick, when Sarah Ann Hipkins, wife of James A. McIntosh, passed away. Although being in poor health for the past five years, she has only been seriously ill since Tuesday, and her death came as a shock to the family and her many friends throughout the community. Mrs. McIntosh was born in Warwick Township and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hipkins. She has lived in Warwick Township all her life. She was 57 years of age and is the last of her own family. While in good health she was an active member of the Anglican Church.
Besides her sorrowing husband she leaves to mourn her loss, two sons, Fred and George at home, and two daughters, Linda, a graduate nurse of Port Huron, Mich., and Ina at home. The funeral was held on Sunday at three o'clock and interment was made in Wisbeach cemetery. Her pallbearers were William Watson, Andrew Iles, William J. Howden, Thomas Williams, Robert Morgan and D. A. Ross. The attendance at the funeral service was one of the largest and was conducted by Rev. E. C. Jennings, rector of Warwick and Wisbeach churches.

OBITUARY We are sorry to have to record the death of another resident of Watford, Mrs. Edward Kersey, who departed this life on the morning the 6th inst., after a protracted illness of about one year, during which time she suffered from the effects of cancer in the side. During the last three months she suffered greatly from pain and prostration, not having left her bed during the whole time. She died at about the age of 73 years, and was interred in the Church of England cemetery at Wisbeach, on Tuesday last, the funeral proceeding from her daughter’s on the Main Road, where the old lady had been living for the last few months.

ANOTHER OLD SETTLER GONE It is our melancholy duty this week to announce the death of Samuel Howden, Sr., of Watford. The deceased at the time of his death, aged 62 years, was a native of the County Fermaugh, Ireland, from where he emigrated to Upper Canada in the year 1835. He settled in the Township of Albion, where he resided four years. From thence he moved to Toronto, a short time before called Little York. During his stay there he was on active duty in assisting to quell the rebellion that existed in 1838 and 1839. He afterwards removed himself and family to the Township of Walpole, in the County of Haldimand, where he resided nine years engaged in agricultural pursuits. From thence he removed in the latter part of 1854, to the Township of Warwick, where he purchased a farm on the Main Road, near Wisbeach, where he again engaged in agricultural pursuits. In the year 1868, he was elected as Deputy-Reeve, his competitor being John D. Eccles, Esq., the vote being a tie, the then Township Clerk gave the casting vote in favor of Mr. Howden, thus enabling him to hold a seat in the County Council for the Township of Warwick, together with the present Reeve of Watford, who was Reeve in that year. Deceased removed to Watford in 1873. In the year 1874 Watford became incorporated as a village, when he was appointed Clerk to the embryo Council, a position which he held with credit to himself and the Council up to the time of his death. In private life he was a consistent member of the Orange order for many years, Conservative in politics, at the same time having a large measure of Christian charity, freely and frankly according to others, the same right to exercise their own judgement as he enjoyed himself. Of a social, unassuming and warm hearted disposition to all with whom he became associated with, both in private and public life, he was respected and esteemed, as was strikingly evinced by the large concourse of those who attended and followed his remains to their last resting place, Wisbeach cemetery, on Monday last, 17th inst. a very eloquent and impressive sermon was delivered by the officiating clergyman, Rev. J. Kennedy of Adelaide.

Fortunately there has been no indication of internal injury, and beyond a severe shaking up, it is believed he will make steady progress.

Howden, member of a pioneer Wisbeach family which settled on the London road in Warwick twp. nearly a century ago, died in Strathroy hospital on Tuesday evening, aged 80 years. He had been in failing health from a heart condition over the past year, but had been in hospital for only ten days.
Surviving are his widow, formerly Lillian Smith, of Warwick, and a family of two sons and one daughter: Keith, on an adjoining farm, Harold of Montreal, and Mrs. Harold Monkhouse [Marjorie] of Bosanquet twp; also three brothers and four sisters: Dr. George N. Howden, of Watford, David of Moose Jaw, Sask., John of Toronto, Mrs. Davis Hamilton, Watford, Mrs. George Dykeman [Catherine], Misses Mattie and Lulu Howden, all of Detroit.
The funeral service will be conducted at his late residence at Wisbeach this Friday afternoon at 2.30 by Rev. Harold F. Cross, with interment in nearby St. Paul's church cemetery. The pallbearers are Wm. E. Parker, Walter Wilson, Robert and James Watson, Eugene and Richard Williams, six lifelong neighbors.

On Wednesday, June 26th, a happy event took place at the home of Mrs. Perry, Main Road, when her daughter, Drusilla E. Perry, was married to Andrew A. Iles, Rev. E. B. Horne officiating. There was a large number of relatives and friends present and the decorations were very tasteful. The wedding march was played by Jean Ross; little Anna Auld, niece of the bridegroom was flower girl, and another niece, Merle Dodds was maid-of-honor. The bride was handsomely gowned in white silk. The young couple will be at home to their friends at their residence, Main Road, after August 1st.

ANDREW ILES PASSES SUDDENLY IN WARWICK Death came with startling suddenness last weekend to one of Warwick Township's best known farmers, Mr. Andrew Iles, at his home on the Main road east. After being stricken with a slight stroke on Friday, he passed away after a heart attack on Sunday afternoon. Mr. Iles, who was in his 72nd year was a lifelong resident of Wisbeach district.
Surviving are his widow, who was formerly Drusilla Perry, of Warwick; one brother, George Iles, also of the Main road, and two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Auld and Mrs. Jennie Auld, of Watford.
The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon, with service at his late residence, conducted by Rev. E. C. Jennings, and interment in St. Paul's church cemetery, Wisbeach.
The pallbearers were: Gene and Richard Williams, Bob Watson, Walter Wilson, George Hawken, and Asahel Bryson.
