Mrs. Oliver Tanner, a lifelong resident of Warwick twp., passed away suddenly on Wednesday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Blake Perry, No. 7 Highway.
She had been sitting writing a letter when stricken with a heart attack and expired within a few minutes.
Mrs. Tanner, who was in her 70th year, was born at Warwick Village, as Minnie Streets, and lived near Wisbeach and near Warwick all her lifetime. Her husband predeceased her in 1941.
Surviving are three daughters: [Isobel] Mrs. Hector Robinson, of Bryonstown, [Marjorie] Mrs. Arthur Conkey, of Bowood and [Hazel] Mrs. Blake Perry, Warwick; also three grandchildren and one surviving sister, Mrs. Duncan of Detroit.
Funeral service will be conducted at St. Paul's church, Wisbeach, this Friday afternoon by Rev. P. J. Docksey and interment will be in Wisbeach cemetery. Pallbearers were Wilfred Smith, Wallace Lowrie, Edward Archer, Gerald Herbert, Kenneth Ross, Jack Day.

MRS. SWANTON CHAMBERS Catherine Georgina Swanton, widow of the late Swanton Bateman Chambers, Watford, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. F. Lawrence on Saturday, July 23rd in her 81st year. She had been in failing health for the past four years.
Born in Orford Twp., Kent County on August 2nd 1868, she was the youngest daughter of the late George Swanton and Catherine Newman. She married Swanton B. Chambers December 30, 1896, and they settled on the townline between Warwick and Adelaide Townships, later moving to the fourth line West between Watford and Kingscourt where they farmed until retiring to Watford in 1929. Mr. Chambers predeceased her eight years ago on December 26th, 1941.
Surviving are two daughters [Margaret] Mrs. Wm. F. Lawrence and [Nina] Mrs. Murray Manders, of Watford; three granddaughters, Mrs. John Maxwell, Elaine and Marilyn Lawrence; three great grandsons, Bevan Lawrence, Bruce and Brian Maxwell, all of Watford, and one half sister, Miss Fannie Swanton of Highgate. One son, George Newman Chambers, died in infancy on May 4th, 1906.
The funeral service was held on Monday from the Harper Funeral Home at 2.30 o'clock and was conducted by Rev. George Pearce, of Brantford, in the absence of her rector Rev. John Graham. Members of Trinity Church choir sang two of her favorite hymns. Interment was in St. Paul’s Church Cemetery, Wisbeach.
The pallbearers were Clare, George and Jack Manders, Clare Lambert, George Morris and Stanley Hayward.

MRS. GEORGE ILES After many weeks of illness, Mrs. George Iles passed away at the family home at Wisbeach early this Friday morning, in her 69th year. She served for many years as secretary of St. Paul's church cemetery board, and throughout her lifetime was an active member of all the church organizations.
Born on the Main road as Alice Elizabeth Tanner, a daughter of pioneer parents, Joseph Tanner and Eliza Phillips, she lived her entire lifetime close to the place of her birth. She taught in the home school for several years prior to her marriage.
Surviving are her husband and two daughters, Miss Frances at home, Miss Doris of Ottawa; also one brother, Oliver Tanner, and one sister, Mrs. Lorenzo Evans, both of Warwick. Two sisters and a brother, predeceased her: the late Mrs. W. H. Shrapnell, Watford, Mrs. Wm. Teeple, Melbourne, and William Tanner of Craven, Sask.

ARTHUR TANNER DIES OF INJURIES The community was shocked on Thursday morning of last week to learn of the death of Mr. Arthur John Tanner, well known farmer of the second line south, Warwick. Mr. Tanner was injured severely on Tuesday afternoon when he fell from a load of hay in the field, striking on his head. He was carried to the house by neighbors and his condition steadily became worse, until his death.
Mr. Tanner, who was in his 63rd year, was born on the Main road, Warwick, on September 25th, 1869, the eldest of a family of three, two sons and one daughter of pioneer parents, Alfred and Janette Tanner, who died many years ago. On March 20th, 1900, he was married to Matilda Mary Minielly, second daughter of the late Arthur and Mary Minielly, also of Warwick. To this union three children were born. The younger daughter, Eva, passed away on January 31st, 1919. Surviving to mourn his loss is his widow, one daughter, Miss Mary, and one son, Fred, both at home, and one brother, Robert Tanner, Main road.
The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon at the family home, 2nd line, with service conducted by Rev. E. C. Jennings, rector of Wisbeach church, and Rev. E. W. Hart, of Zion United church, and interment was in Wisbeach cemetery. The pallbearers were Messrs. J. E. Collier, Thos. A. Gault, Fred A. Wynne, Will Howden, Richard and Eugene Williams.

The Late Edwin Tanner Mr. Edwin Tanner, an old and respected resident of Warwick for many years, whose illness was referred to last week, passed away on Thursday in his seventy-fourth year, the result of a paralytic stroke he received the Monday previous. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon to the Wisbeach cemetery and was very largely attended. The service was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Smith, of Warwick.
Six nephews, Eugene, William, Henry and Alfred Williams, and Oliver and Robert Tanner, bore the remains to their final resting place. Deceased is survived by three sons, Dr. Albert, Rossland, B.C., Charles, Enniskillen, William at home, and two daughters, Mrs. Nathan Thorner, Watford and Miss Nettie at home.

MRS. W. H. SHRAPNELL DIES SUDDENLY Mrs. W.H. Shrapnell, a lifelong resident of Warwick and Watford, died very suddenly early Thursday morning from heart failure. She was in her 72nd year and although had been in poor health for several years, she was able to be about as usual, and with Mr. Shrapnell had enjoyed the evening out, visiting with friends. About three o'clock she aroused him, fearing she was being stricken with heart failure, and before medical aid could be secured, she had passed away. Her sudden death was a painful shock to her family and to all citizens of the town and district.
Mrs. Shrapnell was born in Warwick township, being Emily J. Tanner, a daughter of the late Joseph Tanner and Eliza Phillips, who were pioneer settlers in the early days, on the Main Road at Wisbeach. The family homestead was located on the farm now occupied by William Watson.
After her marriage to Mr. Shrapnell, they lived for several years at Napier, until in January, 1896, Mr. Shrapnell was appointed Public School principal in Watford and they have resided here continuously for the past 35 years. She has been a valued member of Trinity Church, identified with every church activity.
Surviving are her husband, and one daughter, Miss Gladys, at home. Two children died in infancy. Also surviving are two brothers: William of Craven, Sask., and Oliver, of Warwick; and two sisters, Mrs. Geo. Iles, Warwick, and Mrs. Lorenzo Evans, Arkona. Another sister, Mrs. Wm. Teeple, Melbourne, died several years ago.

Funeral Saturday The funeral will be held on Saturday afternoon, with service in Trinity Church at 2.30 p.m., following a private service at the family residence, St. Clair street. Interment will be in Wisbeach cemetery.

FRED TANNER Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 28th, for Frederick Arthur Tanner, a life-long resident of Warwick Twp., who passed away suddenly on Christmas day at his residence.
Fred was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Tanner and beloved brother of Mary, of Watford. A faithful member of Wisbeach Anglican Church, until it closed. He had been attending Zion United Church up until his death.
Rev. D. A. Brydon, of Watford United Church officiated at the funeral service on Tuesday, Dec. 28th, at Harper Funeral Home. Interment was in Wisbeach Cemetery.
Pallbearers included Ivan, Winston and Mac Parker, Sherman Williams, Gordon Reycraft and Franklin Fuller.

Oliver Tanner, one of Warwick’s best known farmers and a lifelong resident of the township, passed away in Queen Alexandra Sanatorium, London, on Monday evening, just ten days after entering hospital for x-ray examination and treatment. He was 64 years of age.
As a lifelong resident of the Main Road, Warwick, he was also a devout member of St. Mary's church, Warwick.
Surviving are his widow, formerly Minnie Streets, and three daughters, Mrs. Arthur Conkey (Marjorie) of Adelaide; Mrs. Hector Robinson (Isabel) of Bryanston, near London, and Miss Hazel Tanner, of the Bell Telephone Staff, Watford; also one surviving sister, Mrs. Lorenzo Evans, Warwick.
The funeral service was held in St. Paul's church, Wisbeach, on Wednesday afternoon, conducted by his rector, Rev. H. F. Cross, with interment in St. Paul's church cemetery.
The pallbearers were John Archer, George Baird, Frank Conkey, Jack Day, Will Bryson and Donald McLeay.

After the ceremony the bride and groom left on a motor trip and on their return will live on the groom’s farm, London Road.

ROBERT A. TANNER Robert Alfred Tanner, 81, lifelong resident of Warwick twp., passed away in hospital at St. Thomas on Saturday, where he had been a patient for the past seven weeks.
For many years his farm on No. 7 Highway has been operated by Bruce Main, who resided with him.
Mr. Tanner was twice married; his first wife, Mary Jane Streets, passed away in August 1924, and his second wife Olive Jane Willoughby in March 1953.
Miss Mary and Fred Tanner are his only living direct relatives.
The body rested at Harper Funeral Home, where service was conducted on Tuesday afternoon by Rev. S. Eric Richards, of Warwick, with interment in St. Paul's church cemetery, Wisbeach.
Pallbearers selected were six long time neighbors: Robert Ross, Albert Clark, Sidney Barnes, Lloyd Cook, Ralph Runnalls and Jack Day.

William Frederick Tanner, formerly of Warwick Twp., died on Monday at the home of Mrs. Edythe Thorner, 630 Elgin st., Wallaceburg, in his 91st year. He was the son of the late Edwin Tanner and Jane Phillips.
Funeral service was held this Wednesday afternoon at Harper Funeral Home with Rev. George Hamilton as officiating minister. Burial was in Wisbeach Cemetery.

MRS. FRED PATTERSON DIES SUDDENLY IN WARWICK Death came quietly early this Thursday morning to Mrs. Fred Patterson, Arkona highway in Warwick. Mrs. Patterson, who was in her 71st year, had been in ill health for many years. Prior to her marriage she was Mary Thompson, of a pioneer Warwick family, and she had lived her entire life in the home district.
Surviving are her husband, Fred. Patterson, well known Warwick farmer, two sons, Cecil, in Saskatoon, and Charles, near Tampa, Florida; two daughters, Mrs. George Hawken, of Adelaide, and Miss Edith Patterson, a teacher in Toronto schools. A third daughter, Mrs. Flossie Eastman, died in Detroit while her husband was overseas with the American war troops, and a son, Gordon, was the first casualty of the 18th Battalion, dying in London hospital of spinal meningitis in 1915.
A private funeral service will be held on Saturday afternoon at the family residence at 1.45 p.m., with interment in St. Paul's church cemetery, Wisbeach. One son, Charles, is coming by train from Florida, due to arrive at noon on Saturday.

BASIL THOMPSON R. Basil Thompson of 100 Evergreen Ave., died at St. Joseph's Hospital Monday.
Born in Thunder Bay, a resident of Sarnia for the past 56 years. He was a Core Maker with Mueller Brass and had later served as a security officer. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Sarnia Branch 62, a veteran of the Second World War, he served in Canada and overseas with the 3rd Field Park Company, RCEME Royal Canadian Engineers.
Survived by his wife the former Pauline Wilson; daughter Martha of Owen Sound; two sons, Robert and Sidney, both of Sarnia; three sisters, Mrs. F. E. (Georgie) Wilson of Deland, Fla., Mrs. M. B. (Dorothy) Chamberlain of Cape Coral, Fla., Mrs. A. E. (Ruth) Weaver of Boston, Mass; two brothers, Howard L. Sr. of Sarnia and Kenneth B. of New Haven, Mich. A memorial funeral will be held at the Stewart Funeral Home today at 7 p.m. with Mr. John Sawer officiating. Cremation to follow at Woodland Crematorium, London.

ARKONA COUPLE CELEBRATE 30TH ANNIVERSARY Mr. and Mrs. William H. Topping were surprised on Friday evening, December 28th when many of their friends of Arkona and Wisbeach arrived at their home to spend an enjoyable evening and help celebrate with them the 30th anniversary of their wedding day.
Each of the visitors brought baskets of eatables and a huge wedding cake was presented the couple by Mr. and Mrs. Richard Williams, the bridesmaid and groomsman at the wedding thirty years ago. A cousin of the bride, Mr. Robert Morgan, who was fiddler at the marriage dance 30 years ago, was also present on this occasion, and an enjoyable evening was spent recalling the joys of that long ago event. Mr. and Mrs. Topping were wished many more happy anniversaries.

WILLIAM HENRY TOPPING Funeral services were held here for William Henry Topping, 74, who passed away Thursday, June 26, after a lengthly illness.
Mr. Topping was born in Carlisle, Ont., son of the late Thomas Topping and Jane Calhoun. He was a member of the Church of St. John the Evangelist.
The deceased had lived in Strathroy for the past five years. He previously lived in Arkona, where he was a mail carrier for about 40 years. His wife, the late Mary Elizabeth Williams, predeceased him 11 years ago.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Isaac Smith, Strathroy and three grandchildren, Ray, Lloyd and Marilyn; one sister, Mrs. Annie Pullman, Strathroy; three brothers, George, Strathroy; Gilbert, Crosswell, Mich., and Ambrose of Adelaide.
Canon H.B. Ashby conducted the services at Denning Bros. Funeral Home. Interment was in Wisbeach Cemetery. The pallbearers were Bill Williams, Ed Williams, Orville Williams, Wilbert Pullman, Albert Pullman and Harry Topping.
