Mrs. Oliver Tanner, a lifelong resident of Warwick twp., passed away suddenly on Wednesday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Blake Perry, No. 7 Highway.
She had been sitting writing a letter when stricken with a heart attack and expired within a few minutes.
Mrs. Tanner, who was in her 70th year, was born at Warwick Village, as Minnie Streets, and lived near Wisbeach and near Warwick all her lifetime. Her husband predeceased her in 1941.
Surviving are three daughters: [Isobel] Mrs. Hector Robinson, of Bryonstown, [Marjorie] Mrs. Arthur Conkey, of Bowood and [Hazel] Mrs. Blake Perry, Warwick; also three grandchildren and one surviving sister, Mrs. Duncan of Detroit.
Funeral service will be conducted at St. Paul's church, Wisbeach, this Friday afternoon by Rev. P. J. Docksey and interment will be in Wisbeach cemetery. Pallbearers were Wilfred Smith, Wallace Lowrie, Edward Archer, Gerald Herbert, Kenneth Ross, Jack Day.

Mrs. Isaac Muxlow, living on the 2nd line, North Adelaide, died on Friday after a short illness, aged 29 years. Funeral to the Wisbeach cemetery Monday, Rev. H. A. Thomas, of Warwick, conducted the service. A husband and six small children are left to mourn her loss.

MRS. SWANTON CHAMBERS Catherine Georgina Swanton, widow of the late Swanton Bateman Chambers, Watford, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. F. Lawrence on Saturday, July 23rd in her 81st year. She had been in failing health for the past four years.
Born in Orford Twp., Kent County on August 2nd 1868, she was the youngest daughter of the late George Swanton and Catherine Newman. She married Swanton B. Chambers December 30, 1896, and they settled on the townline between Warwick and Adelaide Townships, later moving to the fourth line West between Watford and Kingscourt where they farmed until retiring to Watford in 1929. Mr. Chambers predeceased her eight years ago on December 26th, 1941.
Surviving are two daughters [Margaret] Mrs. Wm. F. Lawrence and [Nina] Mrs. Murray Manders, of Watford; three granddaughters, Mrs. John Maxwell, Elaine and Marilyn Lawrence; three great grandsons, Bevan Lawrence, Bruce and Brian Maxwell, all of Watford, and one half sister, Miss Fannie Swanton of Highgate. One son, George Newman Chambers, died in infancy on May 4th, 1906.
The funeral service was held on Monday from the Harper Funeral Home at 2.30 o'clock and was conducted by Rev. George Pearce, of Brantford, in the absence of her rector Rev. John Graham. Members of Trinity Church choir sang two of her favorite hymns. Interment was in St. Paul’s Church Cemetery, Wisbeach.
The pallbearers were Clare, George and Jack Manders, Clare Lambert, George Morris and Stanley Hayward.

Another of the old residents of the Main Road passed away on Monday in the person of Alfred Tanner, in his 69th year. Deceased had not been feeling well for some time, but his illness did not take a serious turn until Friday. He leaves a wife and two sons. The funeral took place Wednesday to the Wisbeach cemetery, the Rev. F. G. Newton officiating. The pall bearers were John Evans, A. Minielly, Alex. Hay, E. Doan, T. Kenward and W. Waun.

MRS. GEORGE ILES After many weeks of illness, Mrs. George Iles passed away at the family home at Wisbeach early this Friday morning, in her 69th year. She served for many years as secretary of St. Paul's church cemetery board, and throughout her lifetime was an active member of all the church organizations.
Born on the Main road as Alice Elizabeth Tanner, a daughter of pioneer parents, Joseph Tanner and Eliza Phillips, she lived her entire lifetime close to the place of her birth. She taught in the home school for several years prior to her marriage.
Surviving are her husband and two daughters, Miss Frances at home, Miss Doris of Ottawa; also one brother, Oliver Tanner, and one sister, Mrs. Lorenzo Evans, both of Warwick. Two sisters and a brother, predeceased her: the late Mrs. W. H. Shrapnell, Watford, Mrs. Wm. Teeple, Melbourne, and William Tanner of Craven, Sask.
Funeral Sunday The funeral will be held on Sunday afternoon, with service in St. Paul's church, Wisbeach, at 2.30, conducted by Rev. E. C. Jennings, following a family service at the residence at two o'clock.

GEORGE ILES FUNERAL SUNDAY The funeral of the late Mrs. George Iles who died at her home on the Main road on Friday of last week, was held on Sunday afternoon with a public service in St. Paul’s church, Wisbeach, following a family service at the home. Rev. E.C. Jennings rector, paid tribute to Mrs. Iles lifelong service to the community and the church. Despite the stormy weather, friends from all sections of the district gathered for the service. Interment was made in St. Paul’s churchyard, the pallbearers being six neighbors: Asahel and William Bryson, Roy Willoughby, George Hawken, George A. Baird and John Aitken.

TANNER - MINIELLY The home of Mr. Arthur Minielly, London Road, Plympton, was the scene of a happy event on Tuesday, March 20th, the occasion being the marriage of his daughter, Miss Matilda, to Mr. Arthur Tanner, of Warwick. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. E. Haines, Baptist minister, Wyoming, in the presence of the immediate relatives. The bride was supported by her sister, Miss Marion, and the groom's brother officiated as best man. A number of handsome presents testified to the popularity of the bride, and many friends wish the young couple all happiness and prosperity.

ARTHUR TANNER DIES OF INJURIES The community was shocked on Thursday morning of last week to learn of the death of Mr. Arthur John Tanner, well known farmer of the second line south, Warwick. Mr. Tanner was injured severely on Tuesday afternoon when he fell from a load of hay in the field, striking on his head. He was carried to the house by neighbors and his condition steadily became worse, until his death.
Mr. Tanner, who was in his 63rd year, was born on the Main road, Warwick, on September 25th, 1869, the eldest of a family of three, two sons and one daughter of pioneer parents, Alfred and Janette Tanner, who died many years ago. On March 20th, 1900, he was married to Matilda Mary Minielly, second daughter of the late Arthur and Mary Minielly, also of Warwick. To this union three children were born. The younger daughter, Eva, passed away on January 31st, 1919. Surviving to mourn his loss is his widow, one daughter, Miss Mary, and one son, Fred, both at home, and one brother, Robert Tanner, Main road.
The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon at the family home, 2nd line, with service conducted by Rev. E. C. Jennings, rector of Wisbeach church, and Rev. E. W. Hart, of Zion United church, and interment was in Wisbeach cemetery. The pallbearers were Messrs. J. E. Collier, Thos. A. Gault, Fred A. Wynne, Will Howden, Richard and Eugene Williams.

Given in marriage by Lester Wallace the bride was attended by Mrs. Lester Wallace, both of Kerwood, and the groomsman was Thomas Williamson, of London. Ann and Jane Williamson were ring bearer and flower girl.
Following a reception at the Highland Golf Club Mr. and Mrs. Iles left on their wedding trip and on their return will reside in Port Huron, Michigan. In recent years the bride has been on the staff of Beck Memorial Sanatorium school, London.

The Late Edwin Tanner Mr. Edwin Tanner, an old and respected resident of Warwick for many years, whose illness was referred to last week, passed away on Thursday in his seventy-fourth year, the result of a paralytic stroke he received the Monday previous. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon to the Wisbeach cemetery and was very largely attended. The service was conducted by the Rev. Mr. Smith, of Warwick.
Six nephews, Eugene, William, Henry and Alfred Williams, and Oliver and Robert Tanner, bore the remains to their final resting place. Deceased is survived by three sons, Dr. Albert, Rossland, B.C., Charles, Enniskillen, William at home, and two daughters, Mrs. Nathan Thorner, Watford and Miss Nettie at home.

MRS. W. H. SHRAPNELL DIES SUDDENLY Mrs. W.H. Shrapnell, a lifelong resident of Warwick and Watford, died very suddenly early Thursday morning from heart failure. She was in her 72nd year and although had been in poor health for several years, she was able to be about as usual, and with Mr. Shrapnell had enjoyed the evening out, visiting with friends. About three o'clock she aroused him, fearing she was being stricken with heart failure, and before medical aid could be secured, she had passed away. Her sudden death was a painful shock to her family and to all citizens of the town and district.
Mrs. Shrapnell was born in Warwick township, being Emily J. Tanner, a daughter of the late Joseph Tanner and Eliza Phillips, who were pioneer settlers in the early days, on the Main Road at Wisbeach. The family homestead was located on the farm now occupied by William Watson.
After her marriage to Mr. Shrapnell, they lived for several years at Napier, until in January, 1896, Mr. Shrapnell was appointed Public School principal in Watford and they have resided here continuously for the past 35 years. She has been a valued member of Trinity Church, identified with every church activity.
Surviving are her husband, and one daughter, Miss Gladys, at home. Two children died in infancy. Also surviving are two brothers: William of Craven, Sask., and Oliver, of Warwick; and two sisters, Mrs. Geo. Iles, Warwick, and Mrs. Lorenzo Evans, Arkona. Another sister, Mrs. Wm. Teeple, Melbourne, died several years ago.
Funeral Saturday The funeral will be held on Saturday afternoon, with service in Trinity Church at 2.30 p.m., following a private service at the family residence, St. Clair street. Interment will be in Wisbeach cemetery.

FUNERAL OF MRS. SHRAPNELL The funeral service for the late Mrs. W. H. Shrapnell, who died very suddenly of heart trouble at her home on St. Clair street early Thursday morning of last week, was held in Trinity Church on Saturday afternoon, with her rector, Rev. J. H. Hosford, officiating. The church was filled with sympathizing friends who paid tribute to her memory. Interment was made in Wisbeach Cemetery, the pallbearers being T. W. Collister, E. A. Brown, C. It is with feelings of sorrow that we are called upon to record the death on Friday last, Jan. 31st, of Eva Pearl, the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Tanner. Although only ill for about a week she had been ailing for some time and her death came as a shock to her many friends. She had a sweet disposition and a thoughtfulness of manner towards all that will remembered for a long time by those with whom she came in contact. She was thirteen years old less one day, and besides her parents leaves a sister and brother in deep grief at her early removal to her eternal home. The funeral was held from the family residence lot 22, con. 2, S. E. R., on Monday afternoon to Wisbeach cemetery, Revs. Tiffin and Shore conducting the service at house and grave. The pallbearers were Gerald Robinson, Earl Fuller, Russell Parker, Arthur Minielly, Clifford and Clayton Edwards.

FRED TANNER Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 28th, for Frederick Arthur Tanner, a life-long resident of Warwick Twp., who passed away suddenly on Christmas day at his residence.
Fred was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Tanner and beloved brother of Mary, of Watford. A faithful member of Wisbeach Anglican Church, until it closed. He had been attending Zion United Church up until his death.
Rev. D. A. Brydon, of Watford United Church officiated at the funeral service on Tuesday, Dec. 28th, at Harper Funeral Home. Interment was in Wisbeach Cemetery.
Pallbearers included Ivan, Winston and Mac Parker, Sherman Williams, Gordon Reycraft and Franklin Fuller.

Mr. Joseph Tanner, Main Road, whose illness was referred to last week, passed away on Thursday morning of last week, in his 71st year. Deceased was a native of Wiltshire, England, and came to Canada about 60 years ago with his parents. When a young man he learned the trade of shoemaking at Adelaide Village, which he followed for some years, afterwards taking up a farm in Warwick. His industry and integrity won him the respect of the community. The funeral on Saturday was conducted by the Rev. F. G. Newton. A widow and family of four daughters, Mrs. W. H. Shrapnell, of Watford; Mrs. Wm. Temple, of Arkona; Ethel and Alice at home, and two sons, Wm. and Oliver, survive. Edward and George Tanner, of Warwick, are brothers.

Oliver Tanner, one of Warwick’s best known farmers and a lifelong resident of the township, passed away in Queen Alexandra Sanatorium, London, on Monday evening, just ten days after entering hospital for x-ray examination and treatment. He was 64 years of age.
As a lifelong resident of the Main Road, Warwick, he was also a devout member of St. Mary's church, Warwick.

The funeral service was held in St. Paul's church, Wisbeach, on Wednesday afternoon, conducted by his rector, Rev. H. F. Cross, with interment in St. Paul's church cemetery.

TANNER - HOWARD A quiet wedding was solemnized at the Rectory, Warwick, on Saturday morning, when Jennie Howard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Willoughby became the bride of Mr. Robert Tanner, London Road. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. E. C. Jennings. They were attended by Mr. Reginald Sandle of Komoka.
After the ceremony the bride and groom left on a motor trip and on their return will live on the groom’s farm, London Road.

ROBERT A. TANNER Robert Alfred Tanner, 81, lifelong resident of Warwick twp., passed away in hospital at St. Thomas on Saturday, where he had been a patient for the past seven weeks.
For many years his farm on No. 7 Highway has been operated by Bruce Main, who resided with him.
Mr. Tanner was twice married; his first wife, Mary Jane Streets, passed away in August 1924, and his second wife Olive Jane Willoughby in March 1953.
Miss Mary and Fred Tanner are his only living direct relatives.
The body rested at Harper Funeral Home, where service was conducted on Tuesday afternoon by Rev. S. Eric Richards, of Warwick, with interment in St. Paul's church cemetery, Wisbeach.
Pallbearers selected were six long time neighbors: Robert Ross, Albert Clark, Sidney Barnes, Lloyd Cook, Ralph Runnalls and Jack Day.

William Frederick Tanner, formerly of Warwick Twp., died on Monday at the home of Mrs. Edythe Thorner, 630 Elgin st., Wallaceburg, in his 91st year. He was the son of the late Edwin Tanner and Jane Phillips.
Funeral service was held this Wednesday afternoon at Harper Funeral Home with Rev. George Hamilton as officiating minister. Burial was in Wisbeach Cemetery.
Pallbearers included Dr. Donald Thorner, Dr. Lorne Thorner, Earl Tanner, Pat Stonehouse, Ken Forbes and Vinton Patterson.

MRS. FRED PATTERSON DIES SUDDENLY IN WARWICK Death came quietly early this Thursday morning to Mrs. Fred Patterson, Arkona highway in Warwick. Mrs. Patterson, who was in her 71st year, had been in ill health for many years. Prior to her marriage she was Mary Thompson, of a pioneer Warwick family, and she had lived her entire life in the home district.
Surviving are her husband, Fred. Patterson, well known Warwick farmer, two sons, Cecil, in Saskatoon, and Charles, near Tampa, Florida; two daughters, Mrs. George Hawken, of Adelaide, and Miss Edith Patterson, a teacher in Toronto schools. A third daughter, Mrs. Flossie Eastman, died in Detroit while her husband was overseas with the American war troops, and a son, Gordon, was the first casualty of the 18th Battalion, dying in London hospital of spinal meningitis in 1915.
A private funeral service will be held on Saturday afternoon at the family residence at 1.45 p.m., with interment in St. Paul's church cemetery, Wisbeach. One son, Charles, is coming by train from Florida, due to arrive at noon on Saturday.

BASIL THOMPSON R. Basil Thompson of 100 Evergreen Ave., died at St. Joseph's Hospital Monday.
Born in Thunder Bay, a resident of Sarnia for the past 56 years. He was a Core Maker with Mueller Brass and had later served as a security officer. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Sarnia Branch 62, a veteran of the Second World War, he served in Canada and overseas with the 3rd Field Park Company, RCEME Royal Canadian Engineers.
Survived by his wife the former Pauline Wilson; daughter Martha of Owen Sound; two sons, Robert and Sidney, both of Sarnia; three sisters, Mrs. F. E. (Georgie) Wilson of Deland, Fla., Mrs. M. B. ARKONA COUPLE CELEBRATE 30TH ANNIVERSARY Mr. and Mrs. William H. Topping were surprised on Friday evening, December 28th when many of their friends of Arkona and Wisbeach arrived at their home to spend an enjoyable evening and help celebrate with them the 30th anniversary of their wedding day.
Each of the visitors brought baskets of eatables and a huge wedding cake was presented the couple by Mr. and Mrs. Richard Williams, the bridesmaid and groomsman at the wedding thirty years ago. A cousin of the bride, Mr. Robert Morgan, who was fiddler at the marriage dance 30 years ago, was also present on this occasion, and an enjoyable evening was spent recalling the joys of that long ago event. Mr. and Mrs. Topping were wished many more happy anniversaries.

WILLIAM HENRY TOPPING Funeral services were held here for William Henry Topping, 74, who passed away Thursday, June 26, after a lengthly illness.
Mr. Topping was born in Carlisle, Ont., son of the late Thomas Topping and Jane Calhoun. He was a member of the Church of St. John the Evangelist.
The deceased had lived in Strathroy for the past five years. He previously lived in Arkona, where he was a mail carrier for about 40 years. His wife, the late Mary Elizabeth Williams, predeceased him 11 years ago.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Isaac Smith, Strathroy and three grandchildren, Ray, Lloyd and Marilyn; one sister, Mrs. Annie Pullman, Strathroy; three brothers, George, Strathroy; Gilbert, Crosswell, Mich., and Ambrose of Adelaide.
Canon H.B. Ashby conducted the services at Denning Bros. Funeral Home. Interment was in Wisbeach Cemetery. The pallbearers were Bill Williams, Ed Williams, Orville Williams, Wilbert Pullman, Albert Pullman and Harry Topping.

Another well-known resident of this township joined the great majority on Wednesday, August 12th, 1914, in the person of Mr. William Ward, who was called home after nearly a year's illness with cancer at the age of 75 years, 8 months and 6 days. Mr. Ward was a native of the township of Beckwith, Lanark Co., being born there on Nov. 18th, 1838. He came to this part of the country about 62 years ago and spent the remainder of his life in Warwick and Watford. He was married in 1865, by Rev. Mr. Salter, at Warwick Village, to Miss Sarah Williamson, of Warwick, who survives him. Four sons and two daughters are also left to mourn a kind and much respected father, namely, Benjamin, of Edmonton; Wm. H., of Watford; Frank, of Warwick; Russell, who lives on the homestead; Mrs. Albert Routley, Warwick, and Mrs. B. E. Grey, of Lapeer, Mich. The funeral was held from the family residence, lot 21, con. 4, S.E.R., on Friday afternoon to the Wisbeach cemetery, Rev. J. C. Forster, pastor of the Watford Presbyterian church, conducting the service. The pallbearers were three sons, William, Frank and Russel, and three brothers-in-law, William, Charles and Henry Williamson. The funeral was well attended by the neighbors and many old friends. Among those present from a distance were Mrs. N. Taylor, Mrs. H. Smith, Mrs. P. McGregor, Mr. and Mrs. R. Dupee, Mr. and Mrs. H. Lucas and Mr. D. Galley, all of Sarnia; and Mrs. Bert E. M. Shore. Mrs. Howden was highly esteemed in the community where she had resided all her life, her kindness of heart and hospitality endearing her to all who knew her. Mr. Howden predeceased her about three years ago, and a family of eleven children survive. The daughters are Mrs. H. Stoner, Bosanquet; Mrs. W. Willoughby, Ithaca, Mich.; Miss Essa, Seattle; Mrs. D. Mrs. R. (Richard) Williams, of Wisbeach, and her two daughters, had a fortunate escape from serious injury on Sunday afternoon, Jan 3rd, when, as they were driving home from church, their horse ran away and threw them all out. One of the young women received a severe shaking up and the other, who was thrown on her head, suffered a scalp wound and minor abrasions. Mrs. Williams was badly shaken up and bruised, having been thrown to the hard ground.

FRED WESTGATE In Strathroy General Hospital on December 24, 1951, Frederick Westgate, beloved husband of Rebecca Elizabeth Reycraft, passed away in his 82nd year. He had been in failing health for a number of years.
Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters and three sons, Mrs. Margaret McNaughton, Forest; Frank, of Detroit; George, of Sarnia; Jack, of Detroit; Mrs. Clayton Davidson, [Susie], of Warwick and Mrs. Wilfrid Leach, [Leila], of Watford; also fifteen grandchildren and sixteen Great-grandchildren.

Practically all his life was spent in Warwick township, with the exception of a few years in Sarnia.
The funeral was held from the Harper Funeral Home in Watford on December 27th, with interment in Wisbeach Cemetery. The service was conducted by Rev. J. A. Armstrong of Grace church, Warwick.
The pallbearers were six grandsons, Fred and Ivan McNaughton, Roy Westgate, Stewart Westgate, Floyd Davidson and Verne Leach. The flower bearers were also grandsons, Donald and Ray Leach, Cameron Bayne, Irvin Harrison, Louie Labatte and Melvin McLean.

WILLIAMS - KELLY St. James' Presbyterian church, Forest, was the setting Saturday afternoon, June 4th, at 2:30 o'clock, for the marriage of Eva Ruth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kelly, Forest, to Mr. Albert Russell Williams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Williams, Watford. Rev. W.D. Macodrum officiated, with Mrs. W. A. Dunlop at the organ.
A gown of white satin, fashioned with a gathered bodice, with lace insertion in neckline and skirt, and coronet headdress of orange blossoms which extended to a three-quarter length veil was worn by the bride, who carried a bouquet of red roses.
Given in marriage by her father, she was attended by her sister, Mrs. Arnold Williams, as matron of honor, gowned in yellow taffeta moire, carrying a bouquet of yellow roses. The bridesmaid was her other sister, Ella, attired in green taffeta moire and carrying a bouquet of red roses. Mrs. Ernest Minielly sang "Because" during the ceremony. The groomsman was Arnold Williams of Watford, brother of the groom and the ushers were Blake Tidball and William Kelly.
The groom's gift to the bride was a strand of pearls. The wedding dinner was served at the Fraser Hotel. For receiving, the bride's mother chose a navy crepe gown, white accessories and rosebud corsage, and the groom's mother wore an aqua gown, black accessories and rosebud corsage. Guests were present from Watford, Ridgetown, Sarnia and Forest.
Mr. and Mrs. Williams left on their honeymoon to Toronto and Niagara Falls. They will reside in Sarnia.

DEATH OF ALFRED J. WILLIAMS An old and respected resident of Wisbeach passed away on Saturday morning, January 20th, in the person of Alfred Williams, in his 79th year. He was born on lot 26, Main road, where he lived continuously until his death.
The funeral took place Monday afternoon to Wisbeach cemetery, the service being conducted in the church by Rev. LP Hagger.
The pallbearers were Thos. Chambers, John Chambers, William Holmes, John Watson, William Watson and William Waun.
Mr. Williams is survived by one son, Richard, living at home and one daughter, Mrs. William Topping of Arkona, also nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by four brothers, namely, Henry, John, Charles and Joseph.
Those who attended the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Williams and son Thomas, of Harbor Beach, Mich., Mrs. John Fraleigh of Jeddo, Mich., and Mrs. James Smith of London, Ont. His brother Joseph was unable to attend on account of illness.
His wife predeceased him nine years ago.

DIED Mr. Arthur Williams, of Warwick, who has been seriously ill for a length of time, died on Wednesday of last week, and was interred in the Wisbeach (English) burying ground, on the Friday following. Mr. Williams leaves a wife and two children, the youngest only two months old.
