Some Major Families in Our Family Tree

bullet Dunham ENG>MA>CT>VT
- This family's origins are obscured. The beginning of the Line is with Nathaniel Dunham of Wrentham Massachusetts. It is unknown if he is related to Deacon John Dunham who was part of the group who was supposed to arrive in Plymouth on the Mayflower, but chose to stay behind in Leyden , Holland, instead of sailing on the Mayflower. My Dunham line continues until about 1775/76 when Lucy Dunham married Benjamin Morgan , who fought in the American Revolution including the Battles of Bennington and Saratoga, as did her brother Obadiah Dunham, Jr. Her father provided private service as a doctor to the cause and as a member of the Vermont government during the war. Later, after the war, Obediah helped write the vermont constitution. The Dunhams moved to Vermont close to the time Lucy was born. Benjamin was born in Connecticut and moved to Vermont shortly before the American Revolution. From 1775/76 to the late 1800's the line continues through the Morgans. The Morgans remained in Vermont until just around the turn of the 19th century/ beginning of the 20th century when they migrated over the border into New York. This line has many decendents who married into some very prominent families. In fact a descendent of this line may have been featured on a US stamp recently. The stamp with the picture of the young mill worker titled "Addie Laird" released in 1998 may infact be Addie Card (her sister also worked in the Pownal Mills at the time the picture was taken) and a great great great granddaughter of Benjamin Morgan. A Lady by the name of Gratia Mahoney is compiliing information on the Dunhams to be published in a book at some point.
