Sullivan IRE>ME>NH
- This line starts in ancient times. The sullivan line connects all the way back to the 800's and even further back. The modern Sullivans in this line all go through Owen O'Sullivan the eldest son of Phillip O'Sullivan who was clan chief of the Sullivan OBeare family in County Kerry, Ireland. Owen traveled to American under the name John Sullivan which sounded far more English than Irish. his family had once been quite wealthy and powerful in Ireland, but due to the british had lost land, power and the wealth they once owned. Owen once claimed to have decended from 4 countesses. From Owen descends our line of sullivans. One of John's sons was Major General John Sullivan and another was James Sullivan who was Governour of Massachusetts for a time. In all, all surviving Sullivans brothers participated in the American Revolution. They were the original "Sullivan Brothers". In addition through Owen's son Benjamin this line is connected to many passengers of the "Unity" which was a scottish prisioner ship. The passengers were the survivors of the Battle of Dunbar against the British and as punishment were transported to the colonies as indentured servants and workers in the Saugus Iron Works.
