The Widow's Washpot

Somebody stole the widow's washpot. Who was it? Long before the days of electric aplliances, it was common (especially in the rural South) for women to have large washpots for washing clothes and a variety of other uses. Someone had the unabashed gaul to steal one such washpot from a poor widow. During the Methodist church services, Rev. Willie Jeter determined to flush out the guilty culprit. He stood at the front with a large rock in his hand. He told the people that he knew who had stolen the widow's washpot, and he was about to hurl the rock in his direction. (Actually, he didn't know who it was.) As Willie Jeter drew back his arm to throw, the cowardly thief left his pew for the floor. Then, all around knew who had stolen the widow's washpot.
