MARIE ANNETT....PARKER, WASHINGTON..... Services for Marie Annett, 72, Parker, Washington, former resident of Nixa were held at 11 a.m., October 1, in Shaw & Sons Funeral Chapel in Parker, Washington. The Rev. Roy Callahan officiated and burial was in Terrace Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Annett died September 28 in a Parker, Washington hospital after a sudden illness. Survivors include her husband, Rodney; three step-sons, Gail, Robert and Jim; three brothers, Loren of Yakima, Guy and Orville of Nixa; three sisters, Bertha Coker of Aurora, Lorene Bolin of Bois D'Arc and Irene Cook of Nixa; five step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. {Newspaper Clipping from Family Bible September 1982}

Mrs. Lucy Inmon Cavner, 72, of 2723 West Elm, died at 12:50 p.m. Sunday at Cox Medical Center after a short illness. Mrs. Cavner, a lifelong resident of the Springfield area, had worked as a nurse’s aide at St. John’s Hospital and was a member of the West and Lincoln Church of Christ. Surviving are her husband, Warren; one son, Billy Joe Inmon, 2751 North Kellett; one daughter, Mrs. Wanda Decker, 1626 South New; one brother, John Sparkman, Brookline; two half-sisters, Mrs. Jane Inmon, 444 West Page, and Mrs. Marie Hart, Appleton City; and two granddaughters. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Greenlawn Battlefield South Funeral Home with Jim Dando officiating. Graveside Rites For Coker Infant. Graveside Services for Anita Kay Coker, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs James R. Coker, who died at birth this morning in the Aurora Community Hospital, were held this afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Orange Cemetery, north of Aurora, with the Rev. John Reser officiating, under the direction of the Marsh Funeral Home, of Aurora. She is survived by her parents Mr. and Mrs. James R. Coker, two sisters, Cindy and Debbie of the home; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Coker of Aurora; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Willhite of Aurora. {Aurora {Mo} Advertiser April 17, 1962}

Last rites for Howard Lee Coker will be held Saturday afternoon…Howard Lee Coker, 15, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Coker of Aurora, died Wednesday afternoon in the Springfield Baptist Hospital, where he had been a patient for eighteen hours. The families home is 6 miles northeast of Aurora. Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother, Richard, of the home; a sister; Eileen Coker of the home; a half-sister, Mrs. Earlene Johnson of Springfield; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Coker of Miller; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Clara Jones of Nixa. Funeral Services for Howard Lee Coker are to be conducted at two o’clock Saturday afternoon in the Marsh Funeral Chapel with the Rev, Ralph Wood officiating. Funeral services for Jesse Lee Coker, 62 of Aurora were at 2:00p.m. Saturday in the Peterson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Gardner officiating. Burial was in the Orange Cemetery near Aurora. Mr. Coker died Wednesday in St. Johns Medical Center, Springfield after a long illness. A native of Nixa, Mr. Coker was a lifelong area resident. He was employed as a farmer. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Jane; a son, James Richard Coker of Aurora; two daughters, Earlene Johnson and Eilene Gold both of Aurora; two brothers, Willie of Springfield and James of Mt. Irene Cook 83, of Nixa passed away at 2:15 a.m. Monday, October 17, 1994 in the Nixa Park Care Center. Mrs. Cook, a homemaker, was born August 17, 1911 in Nixa, Missouri. The daughter of Charlie Wesley and Clara M.  {Sparkman} Jones. She was united in marriage May 26, 1930 in Ozark, Missouri to Leonard Cook. She was a member of the Freemont Hills Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and three sisters. She is survived by her husband, Leonard; a daughter, Betty Lou Newman of Nixa; three sons, Thurman Junior Cook and Darrell G. “ Mickey” Cook both of Nixa and Larry Lee Cook of Ozark; two brothers, Loren Jones of Washington and Orville “Pete” Jones of Nixa; two sisters, her twin Lorene Bolin of Bois D’ Arc, Missouri and Bertha Coker of Aurora, Missouri.;20 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and nine great-great- grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Ayre-Goodwin-Lee, a Heritage Funeral Home at Rivermonte with burial to follow in the Rivermonte Memorial Gardens. James L. Inman, 61, Springfield, died Sunday at 5:25 p.m. after a short illness at his home. He is survived by his wife Martha Jane Inman; two daughters, Mrs. Florence James of California and Miss Jewell Inman of the home; five sons, James H., Brookline, Porter, Clever, Lewis and Jack of Springfield, and Pvt. Martha Jane Inman, 96, 444 W. Page, died at 1:15 a.m. today at Cox Medical Center after a short illness. Mrs. Inman was a resident of Springfield for 46 years.She is survived by five sons, James, Jack, and Eldon, all of Springfield, Porter, Nixa, and Louis, Olathe, Kan.; two daughters, Florence Vallencourt, and Jewell Cannady, both of Springfield; one brother, John Sparkman, Battlefield; 27 grandchildren, 55 great-grand-children, and 15 great-great-grand-children. Mrs. Allie Fair Jones Winslow, 70, a life-long resident of Christain County, died at 11:00 a.m. yesterday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Reathel Jones of Clever, after a lingering illness. Mrs. Winslow had lived with her daughter for the past three years. She spent most of her life in the Nixa community before that. Besides her daughter, she is survived by; four sons, Efton Jones of Sparta, Missouri, Onis Jones of Artesia, California, Roy and Lowell Jones both of Los Angeles, California; six daughters, Mrs. Ethel Harp, Mrs. Artie Smith, and Mrs. Lillie Wadkins, all of Paramount, California, Mrs. Anna Mae Pope of Morehead City, North Carolina; three sisters, Mrs. Effie Howard of Parker, Washington, Mrs. Verna Carsten of Spokane, Missouri and Mrs. Edna Pierce address unknown; 36 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. MOTHER OF AURORA WOMAN DIES LAST NIGHT AT HOSPITAL....Mrs. Clara Jones, 76, years old Nixa woman, died at the Aurora Community Hospital, where she was a patient, at 8 o'clock last night. Mrs. Jones was a life-long resident of the Nixa community and was the widow of the late Charles W. Jones. Mrs. Jones is survived by seven daughters, Mrs. Arizona Rogers of Nixa, Mrs. Ophelia Inman of Nixa, Mrs. Marie Annett of Parker, Washington, Mrs. Lorene Bolin of Bois D'Arc, Mrs Shella Howard of Parker, Washington, and Mrs. Bertha Coker of Aurora, Missouri; and four sons, Guy, Jesse and Orville all of Nixa and Loren Jones of Yakima, Washington; a sister, Jane Inmon of Springfield; four brothers, Charles Sparkman of Oklahoma, Ray Sparkman of California, Eldon and Conce of Springfield; a half-sister, Lucy Inmon of Springfield; three half-brothers, Willie Sparkman of Mt. Vernon, John Sparkman of Brookline and Bob Sparkman of Springfield; 28 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. All together she is survived by 67 direct descendants. James Robert Jones, 86, a retired farmer, died at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs. Blanche Cox, of Aurora, Missouri at 10 o'clock Saturday night. Mr. Jones had been making his home at his granddaughter's for the past six months, but for seven years previous to that he had lived with his daughter, Mrs. Annie Cutbirth of Galena, Missouri. A native of Christian County, Mr. Jones farmed for many years in the Nixa community. Survivors include; four sons, Willie of Selmore, Missouri, Walter of Springfield, Missouri, Ulva of Rogersville, Missouri, and Homer of Nixa, Missouri; four daughters, Mrs. Annie Cutbirth of Galena, Mrs. Lucy McConnell of Grisham, Oregon, Mrs. Pearl McCoy of Commerce, Oklahoma and Mrs. Dora Cox of Billings, Missouri; a brother, David Jones, of California. John H. Jones formerly of the Nixa community, died Saturday night at the home of a son, Efton in Monett, following a brief illness. He was a retired farmer. Funeral services for Frank Jones, 68, who died after a short illness at his home 4 1/2 miles west of Nixa on Friday morning, were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the residence with Rev Onis Greenway officiating. Mrs. Nancy A. F. Inman Jones was born in Giles County, Tennessee, January 29, 1844 and died February 7, 1926. Her maiden name was Nancy A. Inman. She was laid to rest in McConnell Cemetery, 3 1/2 miles West of Nixa, by her friends. She came to Missouri with her father and mother in 1851 and was married to William Jesse Jones in 1859. To this union were born 9 children, 2 daughters and 7 sons. one daughter and one son preceded her in death leaving 1 daughter and 6 sons to mourn her death; also 62 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren making a total of 125 grandchildren and a host of friends. { Christian County Republican Newspaper, Ozark {Mo} February 26, 1926.}

How one life was lost, the manner in which two other persons were seriously injured and the destruction of thousands of dollars worth of property within a radius of four miles of Nixa, in Christian County, by a storm Wednesday night, constituted the substance of a story told yesterday by Louis Maynard while he was visiting friends at the central fire station. Mr. Maynard lives within one half mile of the home of Charles Jones, a farmer living two and one half miles west of Nixa which was destroyed by the wind storm. Mr. Jones's two year old son, William Jones was instantly killed by falling timbers. Mrs. Nancy Jones, Mr. Jones's mother, was seriously injured and little hope is entertained for her recovery. Another daughter, Ophelia, aged 12 was seriously, but not dangerously injured. The Jones home, a substantial log house, was torn down by the wind. The body of the infant was found by Mr. Maynard and others yesterday morning, pinioned to the bed by fallen timbers. Mrs. Jones was caught under a huge log, and she was extricated with difficulty. She received a deep cut on her forehead and internal injuries.  Dr. W. B. Wasson, Coroner for Christian County, who was called to the scene to view the body of the infant, also administered to the injured persons. Mrs. Jones condition yesterday was far from being reassuring. The daughter, Ophelia, sustained a fracture at the left ankle joint and cuts about the body. Other members of the Jones household narrowly escaped being caught under the falling timbers.

YAKIMA... Roy Loren Jones, 83, of Yakima, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2001, at the Renaissance Care Center. Mr. Jones was born on November 19, 1917 in Nixa, Missouri to Charlie and Clara (Sparkman) Jones. Loren was raised and educated in Missouri and married Ethel Howard in Ozark, Missouri in 1938. They moved to the Yakima Valley in 1940. Loren worked for Boise Cascade for 35 years until his retirement. He also owned and operated a pear orchard for 14 years. Loren was a jack of all trades, who could repair or build most anything. He enjoyed Bowling, Fishing, Boating, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Alma "Jean" Byrd of Moxiee, Washington; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Orville Jones of Nixa, Missouri; two sisters, Bertha Coker and Loreen Bolin both of Missouri; and a son-in-law, Clarence Strader of Yakima. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel in 1994, a daughter, Willa Dean Strader and a son-in-law, Larry Byrd. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 7, at Shaw and Sons Memorial Chapel, 201 N. 2nd. Street. Committal services will follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Thursday September 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Friday 10:00 a.m. until service time. MARIONVILLE ---- Services for Cora Della (Maples) Sparkman, 88, Marionville, were at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 28, 1993 in Marionville First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Max Edmondson officiating. Burial in the Marionville IOOF Cemetery, under the direction of Williams Funeral Home of Marionville. Mrs. Sparkman died at 9 a.m. Wednesday, November 24, in the home of her daughter, Norma Hopkins. She was a homemaker and a member of the Marionville First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Sparkman, a son Leo Charles Sparkman, and a daughter, Geraldine Moody. Mrs. Sparkman, the wife of Seth E. Sparkman, a Frisco painter, was born in Nixa but spent most of her life in Springfield. She was a member of the Baptist Church. Besides her husband, she is survived by four sons, Denzel Sparkman of Washington D.C., Etsyl Sparkman and James Sparkman of Springfield and Billy Joe Sparkman of the home; four brothers, Pearlie Herndon of Springfield, Ernest and Vergie Herndon of Nixa and Burl Herndon of Carthage, Missouri and two grandchildren. Funeral services for Gertie Gladys Sparkman, 49, of Springfield, Missouri, who died Tuesday morning, will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Theime and son Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Roscoe Hardin officating and burial will be in the Payne Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews of Mrs. Sparkman. A brief funeral service for James A. Sparkman, 84, retired farmer who died yesterday at his home, will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. at the McConnell Cemetery near Nixa, where he will be buried. Mr. Sparkman left 73 known descendants, including 27 great-grandchildreand one great-great-grandchild. He came to Missouri from Tennessee when he was a young man. Burial will be under the direction of F.C. Thieme. Survivors include seven sons; Charles of Nowata, Oklahoma, Roy of San Diego, California, William of Republic, John of Battlefield, Conce, Eldon, and Robert all of Springfield; three daughters, Mrs. C.W. BATTLEFIELD.....John Alexander Sparkman, 85, Battlefield, died at 5:00p.m. Thursday in his home. The son of James A. and Nellie Sparkman, he was born November 26, 1906 in Emporia, Kansas. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Tilda H.; three sons, James M. and wife Janice, George E. and wife June, and Jerry D. and wife Brenda, all of Battlefield; eleven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday in the Greenlawn Funeral Home South, with the Rev. Randall Moody, officiating. Burial will follow in the White Chapel Cemetery, Springfield. NIXA....Grave side services for Robertson (Bob) Sparkman, 64, Springfield will be at 2 p.m. Monday in McConnell Cemetery, with Rev. Jim Schudy officiating. Burial will be under direction of Harris Funeral Home of Nixa. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. tonight. Mr. Sparkman's body was found in Jordan Creek at 7:37 p.m. Friday according to Greene Co. Coroner, Erwin Busiek. Sparkman had apparently fell partially into the creek. SPRINGFIELD........Seth Eldon Sparkman, 68, of Springfield, was dead on arrival at the Burge-Protestant Hospital at 11:45 p.m. Monday. He had been ill for sometime. Mr. Sparkman was a retired Frisco employee and a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Clorah; sons, Denzel of Houston, Texas, Robert and James of Springfield; two step-daughters, Mrs. Pearlene Triplett and Ruth Evans of Springfield; two step-sons, Enlzan Martin of Omaha, and Gene Martin of Springfield; a sister, Jane Inman of Springfield; three brothers, Charles of Ponca City, Oklahoma, Roy of Marysville, California and Conce of Springfield; three half brothers, Bill Sparkman of Brookline, Bob Sparkman of Springfield and John Sparkman of Republic; 7 grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Rainey Chapel of the Ozarks, with the Rev. Lowell McFall officiating, burial in the Payne Cemetery near Nixa. Mr. Sparkman was a native of Christian Co and had moved to Lawrence Co. in 1941. He was a carpenter and a member of the Curtis Chapel Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Cora; three daughters, Geraldine Moody, Arizona, Norma Lee Hopkins and Janice Pendleton of Marionville; four sons, Leo of Aurora, James of Marionville, Bill of Nevada and Verlin of Mt. Vernon; two brothers, John of Brookline and Robert of Springfield; one sister, Lucy Cavener of Springfield; two half-brothers, Conce Sparkman of  Springfield and Charlie of Oklahoma; one half sister Jane Inmon of Springfield; seventeen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
