Obit Colfax Chronicle, Grant Parish, La. 20 Aug 1898: ELIZA d. 4 PM on a Thursday; aged 72 yrs, 5 mo. 10 days. After marriage "settled at the head of Big Creek in Ward 3, Grant Parish which has been their home ever since and which is known to hundreds of old time settlers as well as newcomers as the abode of hospitality and genial homely welcome to everybody. There they raised a family of 4 boys and 3 girls all of whom became representative useful citizens of the country. For many years Mrs. Kemp (Aunt Eliza as she was affectionately called) has been an exemplary and acceptable member of the Methodist church and diedc in full possession of her faith." Goes on to say she died of complications of asthma with some sort of infection.

"Phillip Dorman was 58 yeays of age when he entered service in Iowa.

The 37th Regiment of the Iowa Volunteer Infantry occupies a unique placein the history of the Civil War. It was composed almost exclusively ofmen who were exempt from military duty. From the date of itsorganization, it came to be generally known as the "Greybeard Regiment."Special authority was obtained from the Secretary of Wr to organize oneregiment, composed of men who were over 45 years of age, but who were ingood physical condition, and able to perform the duties required ofsoldiers.
