History of the Lands and Their Owners in Galloway, Vol 4, p 246 states "..on the 27th April 1658, Thomas, son of Robert Brown of Carsluith, had sasine of the seven merk land of Carsluith...To whom Thomas Brown was married is unknown...In 1696, Robert Brown...succeeded his father.."
It is said that Robert Brown was heir to his brother Robert, but since Thomas must have inherited when a young child, it doesn't seem likely he had a brother named Robert who inherited first.
