History of the Lands and Their Owners in Galloway, Vol 4, p 272 states: "In 1582, William Brown of Bagbie was the owner of Larg..." p 279 states that Larg was also called Ballachanamore with Knockneans passed from James M'Gill to John Brown of Carsluith by charter 20 May 1584. "It must then have been given to a younger son, as we find on the 8th June 1587 that Elizabeth Mure, relict and sole executrix of Umquhile ____ Brown of Bagbie, makes affidavit to the inventory of his estate."
William may have received Larg 14 Dec 1585, or it may have been given to his brother Herbert then, and William may have already been deceased. However, the property reverted to the widow of one of these men, until 1612. M'Kerlie in his "History" gives conflicting reports in different pages and volumes.
