The Book of Mackay, pg 354
History of the Lands and Their Owners in Galloway, FHL 941.49 H2m, v 4, p 423 states: "It is mentioned that Patrick Heron died in 1636, when his son was only three years old. His wife survived him...Being a minor, Patrick was under tutory, one of whom was M'Kie of Larg..." The book must be in error regarding which father died when his child was only three, and the editors have assumed it to be this Patrick's father, John, who died in 1562. Also, it is reasonable that since M'Kie of Larg was tutor to this Patrick, he married Margaret M'Kie of that family.
Several records state the heir of John was John in 1562. It is likely that Patrick's brother John inherited and then died by 1570, when Patrick was named heir to his father.
[3263] John (Patrick?) son of John Heron, was served heir to Kerrochrie, Lessens, Carse, Blackcraig, etc., on 20 Dec 1570. Patrick may have been under age when his father died. He was described as having possessed a mild disposition and of no great metal.
